We previously reported that the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Angelina Jolie was preparing to flee America after her bitter eight year divorce battle with Brad Pitt finally ended. We also reported that Jolie was publicly bashing America, saying that she doesn’t “recognize” the country anymore.

Now, insiders are saying that Jolie is one step closer to making her dreams of leaving America come true, as she’s preparing to say goodbye to her native Los Angeles, California. Indeed, Jolie has put her historic $25 million Cecil B. DeMille estate that she’s lived in since 2016 on the market. She’s also started quietly showing the mansion to potential buyers.

Jolie Prepares To Say Goodbye To LA

Sources told Page Six that Jolie, 50, plans to split her time between New York, where her fashion collective and boutique Atelier Jolie is located, and Europe. She’s hoping that this will give her “more privacy.”

Jolie will also be spending time in Cambodia, where she’s owned a second home since 2003. She’s a citizen of Cambodia, a country that she adopted two of her six children from.

“She can’t get far enough away from the drama. The only way to take a break is to get out,” said Jae Benjamin, an actor and producer who has known Jolie since 2005.

“She’ll go and decompress – only working on things that drive her heart, soul and passion,” he continued. “She’s a wonderful, talented and giving woman.”

Jolie’s Dramatic And Messy Divorce

Much of the “drama” likely stems from Jolie’s messy divorce from her fellow Hollywood A-lister Pitt, 62. Though they split in 2016, their brutal divorce battle stretched out for years in the public eye. It wasn’t finalized until December 30, 2024. To this day, however, Jolie and Pitt are still battling it out in court over the French vineyard that they owned together during their marriage.

“Being through what she’s been through with Brad, having their whole life being in the limelight and all the years of it … the only way to take a break is to get out,” Benjamin lamented. “It’s hard to be in a town where you can’t even turn your head and see someone you don’t know.”

Despite being born and raised in Los Angeles as the daughter of the Oscar-winning star Jon Voight, Jolie has long expressed her desire to leave the California city forever. She’s previously said that she will only stay in L.A. until the six children that she shares with Pitt turn 18. The last of those children will hit that landmark in July, when twins Knox and Vivienne celebrate their 18th birthdays.

“I am here because I have to be here from a divorce,” Jolie admitted to The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”

Jolie Bashes America

Like many celebrities, Jolie has also taken to expressing her dissatisfaction with America as a whole as of late.

“I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country,” Jolie told Variety back in September. “I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international.”

“Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous,” she continued. “These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”

Many celebrities have threatened to flee America over the years, but few actually follow through. However, it seems that Jolie might actually put her money where her mouth is this time.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Jolie likes living outside of America. Perhaps she shouldn’t be surprised to learn that it may not be all that it’s cracked up to be!
