It’s been six months since Jennifer Lopez finalized her divorce from Ben Affleck after just two years of marriage. Last month, we reported that Affleck is willing to pay millions to permanently cut Lopez out of his life.
Now, Lopez is firing back at Affleck through her new song “Wreckage Of You.” In it, she is addressing their divorce like never before.
Lopez Debuts New Song
Last Wednesday, Lopez invited 30 of her biggest Los Angeles-based fans to a top-secret listening party. There, she debuted six new songs that she had never performed publicly.
“Outreach to fans started on Tuesday, but it was all kept a surprise as to what was happening until they were in the room with Jennifer,” an insider told US Weekly.
Five of the songs were reportedly upbeat tracks. These songs were titled: “Up All Night,” “Regular,” “Free,” “Save Me Tonight” and “Birthday.”
The final song, however, was an emotional ballad called “Wreckage of You.” Lopez, 55, made it clear to the fans in attendance that this song was about Affleck, 52.
“‘Wreckage of You’ is a pop ballad that she told us she cowrote and recorded two weeks ago,” said attendee Edgardo Luis Rivera. “She said she was lying in bed after a long day of tour rehearsals when the idea of the song came to her.”
“[Lopez] mentioned how last year was a very difficult time for her both personally and professionally,” Rivera continued. “She had to cancel her tour and really focus on herself. Fast-forward to one year later, and she feels better and stronger than ever, so she wanted to write a song about coming out of a bad situation much stronger.”
Rivera went on to say that throughout Lopez’s divorce from Affleck, she “kept thinking of the word ‘wreck’ because it means destruction, but she wasn’t destroyed.”
“In fact, the lyrics of the song are, ‘I’m stronger after the wreckage of you,'” he added.
A second attendee described “Wreckage of You” as being a “very emotional, empowering song about walking away from a relationship and coming out a stronger person.”
Lopez And Affleck’s History
Lopez and Affleck met in December of 2001 on the set of their infamous movie Gigli. They became engaged the next year, only to shock fans by calling off their planned wedding in 2003 just days before it was set to take place.
Lopez and Affleck each went on to marry and divorce different people. Affleck married the former Alias star Jennifer Garner in 2005 and had three children with her before they divorced in 2018. Prior to Lopez, Affleck’s union with Garner was his only marriage.
Meanwhile, Lopez married the singer Marc Anthony, staying with him from 2004 until they divorced in 2014. He’s the father of her twins.
Lopez and Affleck reunited and quickly rekindled their romance in April of 2021. They went on to marry in July of 2022. Sadly, it didn’t take long for their marriage to go off the rails. Lopez filed for divorce in April of 2024, citing their date of separation as April 26 of that year. Their divorce was finalized in January of 2025.
Lopez Looks To The Future
Now that this is behind her, Lopez is reportedly firmly focused on the future.
“She feels very free right now,” Rivera concluded after attending Lopez’s event last week. “And on this summer tour, she wants to perform some new material that she’s been working on because a lot of these new songs express how she feels.”
Affleck has yet to respond publicly to Lopez writing a new song about their divorce. We can only imagine what he thinks about it!
