The country music sensation Jelly Roll has taken a drastic measure in order to take a break from technology. Indeed, he shocked everyone by throwing his cellphone off a bridge after deciding to not have a phone in 2025.
I can tell you right away – now I’m tempted.
Jelly Roll Throws Phone From Bridge
“This isn’t maybe not the healthy way to do it, but I can confidently tell people I’m not going to have a phone all of [2025],” Jelly Roll, 39, told his wife Bunnie XO on her “Dumb Blonde” podcast.
This came after Jelly Roll asked his driver to take him to the Cumberland River.
“I was getting to a point that I was getting hundreds and hundreds of text messages a day. And I just was overwhelmed,” he explained. “And then when I would finally sit down to go back through them, I would just feel like such a bad human for missing them… I was carrying a lot of guilt. This phone was causing me a lot of guilt.”
That’s relatable even for us normal people. It can get overwhelming to be connected every hour of the day with no respite.
Jelly Roll had previously vowed to throw his cellphone off the Shelby Street Bridge if his “Beautifully Broken Tour” went well.
Bunnie XO wasn’t surprised by this, as she revealed that her husband has been phone-less before. She went on to say that anyone who wants to get in contact with him can call her.
“I’ve had the same number for almost a decade. My husband has had about 17,” she stated.
Jelly Roll Has No Regrets
As for Jelly Roll, he has no regrets about getting rid of his phone – which is good news for anyone who wants to follow his example!
“I would be missing text messages and know there were so many over there that it was too stressful to go check,” he said. “So, I would avoid that by mindless scrolling or… I had these news alerts on my phone, and then we become big news stories all the time. I started getting caught up in that.”
In the end, Jelly Roll feels that having a phone stops him from being his best self.
“I wanna be a better husband,” he added. “I wanna be a better father…I wanna be a better human…I wanna be a better artist.”
Bunnie XO shared video of Jelly Roll FaceTiming her before chucking his phone over the bridge.
Jelly Roll’s 100 Pound Weight Loss
This comes after Jelly Roll lost over 100 pounds. He wants to get in better shape in 2025. In fact, Jelly Roll has an even bigger goal for the year after that.
“I wanna be on the cover of ‘Men’s Health’ by March of 2026,” he told his wife. “That’s my new goal. So I wanna have one of the biggest transformations.”
Jelly Roll is hoping that going public with this will help him to achieve that goal.
“I did this publicly for a reason,” he admitted. “I want to be honest about my struggles with it with people…I wore it for so long… I think that people that become as big as I became, when they lose the weight, they’re kind of ashamed.”
“They’re so ashamed that they go and hide and lose the weight, and then they come back out… they don’t really know how to interact with the world, looking different or feeling different, you know?” Jelly Roll concluded. “And they kind of got to find their whole new way.”
