Hilary Duff branded having children before marriage as “actually so fun.”
Having Kids Before Marriage

The actress split up with musician Matthew Koma, both 38, “twice” before they got hitched, and weeks after they rekindled their romance, Hilary fell pregnant with their seven-year-old daughter, Banks, over a year before they tied the knot.
The star, who wed Matthew in December 2019, recalled on The Morgan Stewart Show, “[We] got back together, we were like, ‘We should have a baby,’ which is psycho. Absolutely psycho. Three weeks later, I think, I was pregnant with Banks.”
However, Hilary – who broke up with Matthew for a year before they got back together, then separated again for six months before they reconciled – would recommend having children before saying “I do.”
The How I Met Your Father alum remembered, “We had the baby, got married, which was actually so fun. [Banks] walked me down the aisle. It was really, really fun. Luca walked Matt down the aisle.”
“I would recommend it to people.”
Done Having Children
Hilary went on to have daughters Mae, five, and Townes, two, with Matthew.
The Lizzie McGuire cast member also has a son named Luca, 14, with her 45-year-old ex-husband, former ice hockey player Mike Comrie.
Earlier this month, Hilary suggested she was “done” with having children.
Duff explained on an episode of 34-year-old Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, saying, “For me, by my third trimester of my fourth [pregnancy], in my body, for the first time, being pregnant was, like, in a lot of pain.”
“I think my body was like, we don’t need to do this again. I can’t keep up with three kids and be as, like, active and running around with them and climbing up in the top bunk and down and, you know, on my feet all day. My body was like, we’re done.”
Not Enjoying Pregnancy

Hilary did not enjoy being pregnant.
She explained, “It’s never been easy. No pregnancy, not a single one of my pregnancies have I ever just been like, ‘Oh my god, I love this!’ I don’t love it. I love the outcome of it. Hate being pregnant.”
The Cheaper by the Dozen actress does not like “having something in my body.”
Hilary added, “It’s crazy. And then what you’re left with afterwards, and how long that whole thing takes and the pressure on you.”
Back to Herself Again
But, ultimately, the Gossip Girl performer said it was “all worth it” in the end. She now likes feeling “like a person” again.
Hilary said, “I think each time I’ve been pregnant and, kind of, gotten to the other side, and I don’t mean that in a negative way, but just, like, where you’re, like, feel like a person again and your clothes start to fit and all of that, you’re like, ‘Oh, I recognise that thing, and that’s happening to me right now.'”
