The Hollywood icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for 43 years. Despite this, they have never gotten married. In a new interview, Hawn is revealing why she and Russell haven’t walked down the aisle.
‘I Don’t Like Ownership…’
Hawn, 80, told Entertainment Tonight that she and Russell, 75, have never even considered getting married to one another.
“We thought that by getting married that was actually going to take something from both of us that we didn’t want,” Hawn explained. “We want to choose each other every day.”
“I don’t like ownership, you know?” she added. “And I must say that I think Kurt feels the same way. I think that’s one of the areas where we all have to feel free to be who we are, and think the way we do, and for those of us who are, basically, want to have a happy life, I think you want to be happy with yourself.”
Later in this interview, Hawn gushed over Russell. She described him as being “kind,” “funny” and “romantic.”

Hawn and Russell first met on the set of their 1968 Disney movie The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. However, they did not begin dating until they starred together in the 1984 movie Swing Shift.
Back in January, Hawn said on The Dan Buettner Podcast that she is still “very sexually attracted” to Russell.
“And that’s important,” she insisted. “If you have a long-term sexual relationship, that’s actually really healthy. He’s my sexual object.”
“I find him incredibly handsome to this day,” the Private Benjamin star added.
‘Freedom’ Keeps Hawn And Russell Together
Last month, Hawn said that “freedom” is what has kept her and Russell together for all these years.
“When I say freedom, it means liberation. I don’t feel penned in,” Hawn told People Magazine. She went on to say that she and Russell are the “right match.”
“We don’t always agree on stuff, which is fine,” Hawn explained. “We’re both very spontaneous. [Our relationship] fed on a lot of goodness, a lot of wonderful life together.”
While appearing on the Conan Needs A Friend podcast in 2024, Hawn said that the joint love that she and Russell have for their blended family is the “sticking glue” to their relationship.
“We don’t agree on everything,” Hawn admitted. “His politics are different than mine. You know, there’s all these things that could divide you. But the one thing that we have, the greatest thing in God’s world, is our family.
“That is where we thrive and where we have incredible amounts of joy and really focus on that,” she added.
Hawn then said that her attraction to Russell has always stemmed from his “focus on the children.”
“He is a family man,” Hawn said of Russell. “I can’t explain it, but he was the one for me. It wasn’t just because he was sexy and handsome and all of those things you get turned on by; it was because he matched my devotion to children to be No. 1. The seduction was really his personality and his focus on the children.”
True love is hard to find, especially in Hollywood. Though they’ve never walked down the aisle, it’s clear that Hawn and Russell really do love each other. In the end, that’s all that really matters.
