Yesterday, we reported that the actress Robin Wright of The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump fame had become the latest celebrity to flee America and move to England. Now, Wright is getting reflective about her past life in America as she reveals her one “huge regret” that still haunts her to this day.
Wright’s ‘Huge Regret’
Wright, 59, told The Times of London that her one “huge regret” in life stems from the way that she raised her two children that she shares with her ex-husband Sean Penn. They are parents to daughter Dylan, 34, and son Hopper, 32.
“I have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids — I wasn’t hard enough on them,” Wright admitted.
“But [Sean] was gone so much of the time,” she continued. “He’d come back and be the policeman and then he’d leave me with the residue. Then I would soften the blow. We were both extremes. They didn’t get that gray area in the middle, which is stern, and that is what they needed.”
Wright began dating Penn, 65, in 1989, right after he divorced the singer Madonna, 67. Wright and Penn married in 1996. Their marriage was a turbulent one, however. Before they finally divorced in 2010, they split and got back together many times.
“Divorce in and of itself, and with children, is devastating. Worse than that,” Wright told The Telegraph of their relationship in 2014. “One of the reasons why we got back together and broke up so much was trying to keep the family together. If you’ve got kids, it’s a family, and you try again, and you try again. We did that for a long time.”
Wright Flees America
This comes after Wright revealed that she has become the latest celebrity to flee America. Indeed, she confirmed that she’s left America to move to England with her British-born Australian boyfriend, the architect Henry Smith.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Texas-born Wright claimed to have no regrets about making this international move. She also took the opportunity to bash America on her way out
“America is a [expletive] show,” Wright claimed.
“I love being in this country,” she later added of England. “There’s a freedom of self here. People are so kind. They’re living. They’re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That’s most of America. Everything’s rush, competition and speed.”
Wright went on to explain that the breaking point for her came when she woke up one morning in Los Angeles to find that her neighbors were doing a major home renovation.
‘Everyone’s building a huge house and I’m just done with all that — I love the quiet,” she said. “And I’ve met my person. Finally.”
Wright’s ‘Liberating’ New Life
According to Wright, life in England with her new love has been “liberating.”
“It’s liberating to be done,” she explained. “Be done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted.”
“That’s exactly what I wanted,” Wright continued. “I’m turning 60 and I’m, like, ‘Is this it?’ I love being alone and I’ve done that many times. But I’m, like…I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world.”
Wright is far from the only celebrity to flee America in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidential victory. Indeed, stars like Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell have done the same thing, with the former settling in England and the latter moving to Ireland.
It’s telling that in the wake of fleeing America, Wright is getting reflective about her life enough to reveal her “huge regret” to the world. Only time will tell if Wright stays in England longterm, or if she comes crawling back to America. Regardless, it’s clear that America is better off without liberal elites like Wright in it.
Good riddance, Robin Wright!
