Christy Carlson Romano, a former Disney star best known for starring in the television shows Even Stevens and Kim Possible in the early 2000s, was shot in the eye last Friday.
Incredibly, she survived!
‘So I Got Shot In The Eye…’
Romano, 40, was shot while shooting clay pigeons in Texas as part of a birthday present she gifted to her husband Brendan Rooney.
“So I got shot in the eye. It was not fun,” Romano began in a video posted to Instagram.
Romano went on to explain that she was shot by “another party with us” that “unsafely fired in the wrong direction.” She was immediately rushed to the hospital.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” Romano wrote in the video’s caption. “Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
What incredible luck. Good and bad!

Romano Is ‘Grateful’ To Have Survived
Romano, who is the mother of two young daughters, is feeling “grateful” to have survived.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,” Romano admitted. “I love my daughters, husband, family and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”
While Romano said that being shot is “not fun,” she is now safe.
“I’m very grateful to first responders as a whole. I mean, they’re just the most amazing, superhero people to take care of us at our most desperate times,” she said in the video. Romano went on to single out one specific hospital, St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
“This is really bad tonight,” Romano concluded as she pointed toward her eye injury. “Everything’s kinda clearing out, but I get to say I got shot in the face, and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day.”

Romano’s Husband Responds
Rooney commented on the video, praising his wife in a big way.
“You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met,” he wrote. “I am so thankful you are alive…I am so thankful you are the mother to our children….I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.”
Rooney later took to his own Instagram page to share a photo of his wife giving him the middle finger as she sat in a hospital bed with visible facial injuries.
“My wife gets shot, I ask to take a picture for the record, she flips me the bird and smiles (she nearly lost her eye mind you),” he wrote in the caption. “When they say there’s no such thing as, ‘The One’ they lie …”
This serves as a reminder of how truly fragile life can be. It also serves as a reminder to always abide by safety protocols when participating in any kind of hunting activity.
We’re so glad that Romano appears to be well on the way to a full recovery. Please join us in saying a prayer for her!
