Jason “Sundance” Head, who won season 11 of The Voice, has broken his silence after accidentally shooting himself.

Head Accidentally Shoots Himself

Head’s agent Trey Newman told People Magazine that the singer was hunting in the woods by himself near his Texas ranch last Friday when he received one bullet to the stomach at around 4-4:30 p.m. He was then rushed to the hospital.

The next day, Head’s wife Misty revealed that he was in stable condition and had been discharged. However, she added that he had been “bleeding badly through his bandages” during a “rough” three-hour car ride home.

On Sunday, Head himself finally broke his silence to open up about what happened in a video posted to Facebook.

“I was sure that I was gonna die,” admitted Head, 46. “It was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me. But I really wanted to come on here and tell you guys that I am alive. I’m in a lot of pain. I was shot accidentally in the stomach…I was alone….I still have the bullet in me. I’m not sure exactly what’s going to go on. All I know is I didn’t die.”

“I have a lot of life left, and that’s what I was telling these ladies and gentlemen that [were] trying to keep me alive during the whole process, man. I just, really, I’m so thankful for the first responders,” he continued. “They did a wonderful job.”

Head Thanks Good Samaritan Who Saved Him

Head went on to thank the stranger who stopped to save him when he was “bleeding out” on the side of the road.

“Without you, man, I don’t think I was gonna make it,” he said of this person. “I was bleeding out right there. Didn’t have anyone to help me, and you know, I had about a dozen cars go by and see me and make eye contact, and they didn’t stop.”

“I’m telling you what, buddy, I was at the end of the road,” he added. “So, I am really, really fortunate and thankful for the couple of gentlemen that did turn around, and I want to tell you honestly that I love you and I’m so thankful that you were in my life at that moment. And it wasn’t a chance meeting between us. And I look forward to spending more time with you in the future.”

Head ended his message by thanking his fans for their prayers.

“So, I really love you, really thank you, and look forward to sharing the rest of the story with you,” he stated.

Head concluded by saying that he will be sharing more details about how this fluke accident actually happened in the days and weeks to come. For now, he’s focused on recuperating at home with his family.
