Yesterday, we reported that there are rumblings that the hit show Yellowstone may actually be returning for a surprise sixth season.

In the wake of this, fans have been begging Kevin Costner to return to the show and continue playing his iconic character of John Dutton III.

Yellowstone’s Potential Sixth Season

Yellowstone was set to end at the conclusion of the current fifth season, which was divided into two parts. The last batch of episodes were scheduled to begin airing on Paramount in November.

However, Deadline has since confirmed that “negotiations are underway for a sixth season,” with Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) in talks to have top billing.

One source made it clear that the potential sixth season would focus on Reilly and Hauser’s characters, considering Costner declined to return to finish out the second half of season five. He stated that while he wanted to finish out his character’s arc, he felt that Paramount dividing the fifth season in half interfered with his work on his four-part Western movie series Horizon: An American Saga.

Fans Want Costner Back on Yellowstone

Now that Yellowstone could be getting a sixth season, however, fans are hoping that Costner will reconsider.

“There is no Yellowstone without Kevin Costner,” one fan commented. Another added, “No Costner? NO WAY!”

A third social media user predicted that a sixth season simply is “not going to work” without Costner.

“Without John Dutton, there is not a main character holding them all together to save the ranch,” this user explained. “Beth gets on everyone’s nerves and how many more people can Rip take to the train station? Let it stop. Please.”

While many fans want Costner back, there are some that think that Reilly and Hauser can carry the show on their own.

“I hope it’s true,” one user commented. “I’m all in for a Beth and Rip spinoff/sequel/YS season 6…whatever it is now.”

“I love me some Beth and Rip make no excuses let’s get it done,” another fan stated.

Previous Hints About Yellowstone Season Six

Hauser had previously hinted at what fans assumed was a Yellowstone spin-off starring himself and Reilly. Now it appears that he was actually referring to a potential sixth season.

“I’m so focused on finishing Yellowstone the way it needs to be finished right now – well, just the show itself,” Hauser told Country Living in April. “We’ll see where that leads.”

“But I know that there’s some stuff on the horizon when it comes to Taylor’s ideas for Kelly Reilly and myself, and some of the other cast,” Hauser continued. “I’m excited to see where he goes creatively with that. But right now, it’s just: Let’s finish strong; let’s do the best we can.”

Costner had previously claimed to Fox News that he was “offered” to do season six, but it was “complicated.” Ultimately, negotiations broke down between him and show executives.

“We did negotiate,” he explained. “There were issues about creative. I tried to break the logjam. They walked away.”

Yellowstone has been one of the most popular shows on television ever since it premiered back in 2018. It will certainly be interesting to see where this potential sixth season goes, and if Costner possibly does come back!
