Fans of Yellowstone have long been devastated that the hit show is set to end after the current fifth season. That’s why they’re feeling very excited right now, as reports are coming out stating that Yellowstone may actually get a surprise sixth season!
Yellowstone May Get A Sixth Season
Sources told Variety that Yellowstone stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are currently in talks for top billing on a potential sixth season. While no official deals are in place yet, the plan would be for Yellowstone to continue after the second half of season five. Those episodes begin airing on Paramount on November 10.
On Yellowstone, Reilly plays Bethany “Beth” Dutton, the daughter of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton III. Meanwhile, Hauser plays Rip Wheeler, Beth’s husband and an employee who is the “fixer” of Dutton Ranch.
Other sources told Deadline that Reilly and Hauser have been in negotiations for months. It had been thought that these talks were about a spin-off show. However, it appears that they have actually been about a season six of Yellowstone.
Costner Leaves Yellowstone
This comes after Costner left Yellowstone following five and a half seasons. He will not be in the second half of season five. Costner said he quit the show because of the decision to split season five into two parts. He explained that this interfered with his work on his four-part Western film series Horizon: An American Saga.
Costner claimed to be interested in closing out the arc for his character of John Dutton III. Unfortunately, he and the network were never able to come to an agreement.
Yellowstone premiered back in 2018 and immediately became a massive hit with fans. It tells the story of the powerful and duplicitous Dutton family, who control the largest contiguous ranch in the entire U.S.
Yellowstone has been so popular that it has already spawned two spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, each of which chronicle the Dutton family’s history before modern times.
Another Series In The Yellowstone Universe
A third series in the Yellowstone universe is also on the way. The Madison will be “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.” It is set to star Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox.
Other Yellowstone spinoffs have been confirmed, but there are few details available about them. 6666 is set to star Matthew McConaughey and was confirmed to be “moving forward” in April of last year. 1944 has been green lit, and is set to tell the story of the Dutton family in that fateful year as America neared the merciful end of World War II.
Yellowstone has been one of the best shows on television for years. That’s why it was so heartbreaking that the show would meet a premature end after season five. We can only hope that season six of Yellowstone comes to fruition, because we would definitely be watching alongside millions of other eager fans!
