Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America. She then moved across the world to the United Kingdom. DeGeneres has since been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.
Now, DeGeneres has resurfaced in London with a dramatic new look. Indeed, her appearance left even her most devoted fans shocked.
DeGeneres’ New Look
DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, were seen rocking new hairstyles as they shopped on Bond Street in London on Tuesday. The former The Ellen DeGeneres Show host has long been known as a blonde. That’s why it’s come as a surprise to her fans that she’s now sporting much darker hair.
Instead of her typical blonde locks, DeGeneres is now a bona fide brunette. Her signature pixie look has also been altered, as it is now a little bit longer.
Meanwhile, de Rossi’s hair is currently much shorter than it has been in the past. During her shopping outing, de Rossi was seen with a hairstyle that went just below her shoulders, creating a wavy bob look.

DeGeneres Moves To England
DeGeneres and de Rossi relocated to England back in November. They settled in a rural area called the Cotswolds, which is known for being a celebrity hotspot. Last week, DeGeneres revealed that they chose to settle there partly because of de Rossi’s love for animals.
“When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses,” DeGeneres told The Wall Street Journal on July 22. “We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.”
Since moving to the United Kingdom, DeGeneres has been loving her life there. During a conversation with the British television host on July 20, DeGeneres indicated that she has no plans to return to the U.S. anytime soon.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said of England. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”
“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” DeGeneres continued. “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
DeGeneres Reveals Why She Fled America
In this same interview, DeGeneres was asked directly if Donald Trump’s presidential victory played a role in her leaving America.
“Yes,” replied DeGeneres. “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”
DeGeneres concluded this rant by seemingly taking a veiled dig at America.
“I wish we were at a place where it was not scary for people to be who they are. I wish that we lived in a society where everybody could accept other people and their differences,” she lamented. “So until we’re there, I think there’s a hard place to say we have huge progress.”
It seems that DeGeneres has decided to try out a new look in her new country. Only time will tell how this works out for her. It will certainly be interesting if she ends up staying in Europe longterm, or if she comes crawling back to America!
