In November of last year, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America. She then moved across the world to the United Kingdom. DeGeneres has since been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.
Unfortunately for DeGeneres, however, it appears that this move has now backfired on her in a big way. Indeed, insiders are claiming that de Rossi is already tired of England. In fact, de Rossi is allegedly already desperate to leave England to resume her acting career.
de Rossi Scores Major Acting Opportunity
A Hollywood insider spoke out this week to claim that “the makers of The White Lotus ” on HBO have de Rossi, 52, on their “wish list” for the show’s upcoming fourth season.
“She would fit into the universe of that show perfectly. And she already has loads of ensemble TV acting experience from her run on Arrested Development,” the source alleged.
The next season of The White Lotus is set to be filmed in France. According to the insider, DeGeneres, 67, isn’t thrilled at the thought of her wife leaving England to film a show.
“Ellen is not happy about the idea of Portia going off for five months to act on a streaming show,” the source continued. “The makers of The White Lotus understand that. The previous seasons have all been filmed at luxury resorts. The actors, if they want to, can bring along their loved ones for what amounts to a free vacation.”
de Rossi ‘Doesn’t Need’ DeGeneres’ Permission
The insider went on to say that de Rossi has already started talking to DeGeneres about doing The White Lotus.
“People think Ellen was the one who coaxed Portia to put her acting career on hold, but that’s not accurate,” the insider explained. “Portia was the one who decided to step back from acting.”
“Portia is her own woman and makes her own decisions,” the source added. “And when the right acting opportunity comes along for her, she doesn’t need Ellen’s permission to say ‘yes.'”
The insider concluded by saying that if de Rossi ends up appearing on The White Lotus, DeGeneres won’t be traveling with her to film the series.
“Ellen has no intention of leaving home and staying in some remote resort with a bunch of actors and their mates. She doesn’t want to tag along, and she doesn’t want Portia to go either,” the source stated. “She wants things just the way they are, and that kind of stubbornness could prove fatal to the marriage.”
de Rossi ‘Feels Suffocated’ By DeGeneres
This comes one week after other insiders claimed that de Rossi “feels suffocated” by DeGeneres in England.
“Portia loves Ellen dearly, but she feels totally suffocated much of the time. Every aspect of her life is constantly micromanaged,” an insider told Radar Online. “If she wants to go for a horse ride, a jog, even a trip to the shops, it’ll be met with a dozen questions. And Ellen hates going anywhere by herself, so Portia’s always on the hook to be by her side.”
Those close to DeGeneres have always known that she’s a bit of a control freak. Now that de Rossi is in a new country alone with DeGeneres, she feels like all of the negative aspects of the comedian’s controlling nature are falling on her.
“Ellen is extremely protective of Portia,” the insider explained. “It’s sweet to a certain extent. But it can also make things very difficult. Portia wants to break out and do her own thing and she’s constantly suppressed.”
“Portia is at a point now where she’s putting her foot down and insisting Ellen give her breathing room,” the source continued. “She can’t go on like this and is seriously considering some time apart to clear her head and get her life back.”
Could This Be The End For DeGeneres And de Rossi?
DeGeneres and de Rossi have been married for 17 years. According to the insider, however, their relationship has deteriorated in England. It’s allegedly gotten so bad that de Rossi may leave if DeGeneres doesn’t soon change her ways.
“If Ellen doesn’t back off and listen it may well just drive Portia out the door permanently,” the source concluded.
It appears that taking five months to film a show like The White Lotus might just be exactly what de Rossi needs right now. Unfortunately for DeGeneres, there might be nothing she can do to stop her wife from taking this opportunity!
