Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America and moved across the world to the United Kingdom. Since then, DeGeneres has been laying low in her new home with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.
Unfortunately for DeGeneres, however, her controversial past in America has just come back to haunt her. Indeed a 2007 interview that DeGeneres did with the singer Celine Dion has just resurfaced. Fans are using it to bash DeGeneres, who they claim was extremely “invasive” in her interaction with Dion.
DeGeneres’ ‘Invasive’ Interview With Dion Resurfaces
In the 2007 clip from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres called out Dion’s then-six-year-old son René-Charles’ for his long hair.
“It seems like you’re busy with something, ’cause you’re forgetting to cut your son’s hair,” DeGeneres quipped.
This comment immediately drew a mixed response from DeGeneres’ audience, with some laughing and others audibly gasping. As for Dion, she wasn’t having any of it.
“Do you have a problem with that?” a visibly annoyed Dion fired back.
DeGeneres tried to backtrack by saying that she didn’t in fact have a problem with that. However, she proceeded to double down, saying, “That is some long hair!”
Dion responded to this by taking the high road, explaining that as her son’s mother, she believes that he can set his own boundaries when it comes to his hair.
“Whatever I will do, I won’t please everyone… Do you know that René-Charles makes his own decisions?” she said. “When he’s ready, I’ll cut it.”
DeGeneres seemingly brushed this off by quickly moving on to another topic.

Social Media Responds
Unfortunately for DeGeneres, fans are taking to social media to slam her for the way that she treated both Dion and the singer’s son.
“This is also such a weird topic for Ellen to bring up,” one social media user commented. Another added, “She has Céline Dion sitting with her on on a talk show, and she wants to focus on her kids hair?”
“I love how badly some of these Ellen clips have aged,” a third user commented. A fourth wrote, “She was viewed as a ‘fun’ and ‘happy’ place to go promote things and instead some people got rude invasive questions masked under humor and some people she literally scared the daylights out of with her ‘surprises.'”
Many other users even questioned why it took so long for DeGeneres to be exposed for her “terrible” behavior. Indeed, it wasn’t until 2020 that DeGeneres’ alleged toxic behavior was exposed to the world.

DeGeneres’ Toxic Workplace Scandal
For decades, DeGeneres was known as “The Queen of Nice.” She even ended every episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show by telling her viewers to “be kind to one another.”
That all changed in 2020, when DeGeneres was accused of presiding over a workplace at her talk show that was full of racism, sexism, and bullying. It was even alleged that her own staffers were told to never make eye contact with DeGeneres.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show went off the air in 2022. In the years since then, DeGeneres has lamented that she was “kicked out of show business” for being “mean.”
“The hate went on for a long time and I would try to avoid looking at the news,” DeGeneres said last year. “The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”
DeGeneres Flees America
This is partly why DeGeneres decided to flee America and move to England.
“Ellen really felt she had made her mark on the industry, but that was diminished when she was cancelled over her alleged treatment of her staff,” a source told Daily Mail back in November. “Then to have celebrities call her out one by one was so hurtful.”
The insider went on to say that the “all the ill will towards” DeGeneres in America partly led to her decision to leave the country.
“She has the one person that still loves her, Portia, and she is ready to leave everyone who in her mind left her hanging out to dry. If she considers it her retirement, so be it,” the source continued. “An enormous part of the US doesn’t like her because of her sexual preferences, and others were turned off by her persona, which some perceived to be fake in the wake of the work place allegations.”
“For Ellen, it’s easier to move away from her problems than to confront them,” the insider concluded. “It seems like a sad end to what she once was in people’s minds.”

Since DeGeneres fled the U.S. partly to escape her past, she likely won’t be happy that this old interview that she did with Dion is going viral for all the wrong reasons. In the end, it doesn’t seem like DeGeneres will be coming back to America anytime soon!
