Dennis Quaid is a Hollywood star who was born and raised in the great state of Texas. Indeed, Quaid still has strong family connections to the Lone Star State to this day.

That’s why Quaid has been left particularly devastated by the Texas floods. At the time of this writing, the floods have claimed the lives of over 100 people. In a new interview, Quaid is opening up about this like never before. He’s also telling a personal story about the first day of the floods.

Quaid Discusses Texas Fl0ods

Quaid, 71, revealed that his 17 year-old daughter Zoe was working as a counselor at a summer camp located around 75 miles north of Kerrville. On the night that the flooding started, Quaid desperately started calling his daughter. Sadly, she didn’t pick up the phone, and Quaid was unable to get ahold of her until the next day.

“I heard about this as I was going to bed that night, and I tried to call her because I knew she was up there,” Quaid recalled to Fox News. “I knew it wasn’t near where the floods were, but I wasn’t able to talk to her till the next day.”

Quaid went on to admit that he “didn’t really get a lot of sleep that night.”

Thankfully, Zoe and the others staying at the camp were “relatively safe up there.” However, another girl at Zoe’s camp lost her entire family in the floods.

“One of the girls at that camp lost her whole family who were camping in an RV, I guess, on the Guadalupe River, and they were swept away,” he lamented.

Quaid’s Close Friend Loses Relative

Tragically, the Texas flooding has hit close to home for Quaid in other ways as well. He’s close friends with the Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, who lost his 9 year-old cousin Janie to the floods.

“I can’t imagine how that would … how devastating that would be,” Quaid confessed. “We just need to pray for people.”

“You think of those kids that night, and it just chills my heart,” he continued. “Do a lot of praying because there’s a lot of people that need to be prayed for still.”

This comes after Hunt’s daughter Gracie took to social media to pay tribute to Janie.

“My heart aches for our extended family and friends who lost daughters — for every life lost and every family shattered by the floods in Texas,” she wrote on Instagram. “I don’t have easy answers, but I do know this: following Jesus doesn’t spare us from pain — but it means we never face it alone. 🤍.”

“Even in the darkest valleys, we hold on to the hope that this is not the end of the story,” she added.

‘We Just Need To Pray…’

As Texas tries to recover from the floods, Quaid is calling on his fans to donate to Kerr County Flood Relief to support the victims and their families.

“We just need to pray for people [and] we’re telling people if they want to donate some money too, just take some money out of your wallet or your credit card or on your phone,” Quaid told Us Weekly. “You can do it in five minutes. Just go to Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, and that’s a community foundation, dot net. Would be greatly appreciated, and it will go right where it needs to go.”

The people of Texas could definitely use some prayers right now. God bless Quad for using his platform to help those who have been impacted by these floods!
