It’s been five years since the Hollywood icon Dennis Quaid, 71, married his 32 year-old wife Laura Savoie. In a new interview, Quaid is speaking out to defend their 39 year age gap, insisting that he’s still in the honeymoon stage when it comes to their marriage.
‘God Put Us Together…’
“My life is paradise,” Quaid told Fox News. “Every day is paradise with her. It really is.”
“It’s the closest relationship I’ve ever had with anybody,” he continued. “Every day is paradise. What can I tell you? I don’t know why God had waited so long to bring her, for her to come along, but [I’m] really glad he brought her into my life, or I walked into hers.”
Quaid and Savoie got married in June of 2020. They had met at a business event one year prior to that. At the time, Savoie was working toward her second master’s degree at the Texas McCombs School of Business.
Though eyebrows were immediately raised over their 39 year age difference, Quaid insists that he barely even notices it.
“I haven’t spoken out about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. But…I really don’t think about it,” he confessed. “She’s got so much going on that, you know, I just don’t notice it. She’s just, she’s the light of my life.”
“I wasn’t looking for it, and she came along, and it’s God put us together,” Quaid added.

Quaid Sees Savoie As ‘A Real Partner In Life’
After becoming engaged to Savoie in 2019, Quaid told The Guardian that the public’s obsession with their age gap was “really a laugh.”
“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me,” he explained at the time. “I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed.”
“You have no control over who you fall in love with,” Quaid insisted. “I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
Savoie is Quaid’s fourth wife. He was previously married to the actress P.J. Soles of Carrie and Halloween fame from 1978 until they divorced in 1983. Quaid went on to marry the When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail star Meg Ryan in 1991. They had one son together, the actor Jack Quaid, before they divorced in 2001.
Quaid’s third wife was the real estate broker Kimberly Buffington. They married in 2004 and had two children together before divorcing in 2018. He then married Savoie in 2020, and they’ve been together ever since.
“It really doesn’t bother us,” Quaid said of the backlash over his and Savoie’s age difference after they got engaged. “Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel; I can’t even get angry.”
Savoie Gushes Over Quaid
As for Savoie, she seems as happy as can be with Quaid. She previously told People Magazine that she has “never met someone who is so in love with life. It’s like nothing can bring him down.”
“Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me,” Savoie gushed. “It changes my perspective and it brings so much joy to every day.”
A nearly-40 year age difference is certainly unorthodox. However, if Quaid and Savoie are truly as in love as they appear to be, it shouldn’t be seen as a big deal.
In the end, we’re just glad that Quaid and Savoie have found love with one another. Here’s hoping that they have many years of happiness together to come!
