The country music star Cody Johnson was forced to stop a concert in San Antonio, Texas last Saturday night when a violent brawl broke out during a performance of “God Bless America.”
Johnson Stops Concert As Brawl Breaks Out
Johnson, 38, was nearing the end of a stirring rendition of “God Bless America” when he saw a massive brawl break out among fans. A video that has since gone viral on TikTok shows various audience members grabbing one another before falling to the ground.
Johnson was not having any of it. Indeed, he stopped his patriotic song to let the brawlers have it.
“I mean, this is not a Travis Scott concert,” Johnson told them.
This was a reference to the rapper Scott’s infamous 2021 Astroworld concert. There, a massive crowd surge killed 10 people and injured hundreds more.
“There’s kids in the crowd, there are all kinds of things in here that don’t need to happen,” Johnson said. “There we go, there are the police officers.”
Johnson was all the more angered and disappointed by the brawl, given the fact that he had opened his “God Bless America” performance by talking about “unity and not being divided.” He took the opportunity to criticize both the media and lawmakers for dividing the American people.
“Well, so much for my speech on not being divided,” a visibly frustrated Johnson said after the brawl.

Johnson’s Previous Comments On Division
This isn’t the first time that Johnson has used one of his concerts to vent his frustrations with how divided we are as a nation.
Back in April, Johnson stopped a concert in Nashville. He then asked military veterans, first responders and emergency personnel to raise their hands.
“Now, if you don’t have your hand in the air right now, I’m gonna ask a simple favor,” Johnson began. “I’m gonna ask you to stand up and I’m gonna ask you to make some noise for these men and women who keep us free.”
“Four years ago the word was division — I guess it was five years ago now,” he continued. “All there was was division….There was divisions about race. There was divisions about religion. There was divisions about politics because if you voted for this person or that person that means we gotta hate each other.”
“Well, I got news for ya,” Johnson added. “Every bit of that was just a bunch of lies. I do not believe in division. I don’t believe in hate. Three things that we can all agree on, that we can all believe in are just like this: red, white and blue.”

Johnson Honors Service Members
Not stopping there, Johnson shifted back to addressing the service members in his audience.
“Do you know why it’s OK to disagree?” the country star said. “They try to tell us it’s because you believe different than I do, or I believe different than you do, or you believe different than her or him that we should hate each other. You know why it’s OK that we disagree?”
“Because before most of us were born there was an American solider that sacrificed their lives for us to have the right to disagree and still be united as one country under God,” he concluded.
Amen!
It’s sad to see a brawl break out during any concert. However, it’s particularly disheartening to see this happen during a performance of “God Bless America.”
We applaud Johnson for handling this situation with class and dignity. If only we had more celebrities out there like Cody Johnson!
