Days after Prince William described 2024 as being “brutal” and “the hardest year” of his life, it’s been revealed that he and his wife Kate Middleton’s Windsor Castle estate was targeted by burglars last month.

Break-In At Windsor Estate

The Windsor estate houses many employees of the royal family and is also the location of Adelaide Cottage. It’s here that William and Kate live with their three young children.

“At around 11.45pm on Sunday 13 October, we received a report of burglary at a property on Crown Estate land near to the A308 in Windsor,” a Thames Valley Police spokesperson told Fox News.

“Offenders entered a farm building and made off with a black Izuzu pickup and a red quad bike. They then made off towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area,” the statement added. “No arrests have been made at this stage and an investigation is ongoing.”

Royals Were Home At The Time

William, Kate, and their three children were all home and asleep at the time of the burglary.

“They must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while,” a source told The Sun.

Two masked men scaled a 6 ft fence to stage this break-in. While the Windsor estate is equipped with alarms, nobody was aware of the break-in until the perpetrators “crashed through the security barrier” at a gated exit.

“They would have to have known the vehicles were stored there before they broke in and known when was the best time to get and escape without being caught,” the source continued. “So they must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while.”

“There are alarms at Windsor Castle but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit,” the insider explained. “The barrier has needed to be replaced as it was so badly damaged. It was a Sunday night on a school week so the young princes and princess would have been tucked in bed at Adelaide Cottage, just around the corner but still in the grounds.”

William, 42, and Kate, 42, moved to Adelaide Cottage in the summer of 2022. They live there with their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

William And Kate’s Difficult Year

This has indeed been a trying year for these royals, as Kate spent 2024 battling cancer. After undergoing months of grueling chemotherapy treatments, Kate declared herself to be cancer-free in September.

“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” she said at the time. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

Earlier this month, William admitted that this year has been “brutal.”

“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life,” William said in South Africa the day after his Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

“So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” he continued. “But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”

William and Kate have yet to publicly respond to the break-in at their Windsor Castle estate. We can only imagine just how rattled they are by it. Please join us in saying a prayer for them during this difficult time.
