On the latest episode of the new reality show The Baldwins, Hilaria Baldwin is alleging that her husband Alec had “survivors guilt” immediately after the 2021 shooting on the set of his movie Rust that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. According to Hilaria, the “survivors guilt” was so bad that Alec wanted to commit suicide.
Alec’s ‘Survivors Guilt’
In October of 2021, a gun held by Baldwin on the Rust set went off. Hutchins was killed at the age of 42, and director Joel Souza was injured. Hilaria, 41, is now claiming that she received some alarming text messages from Alec the day after the shooting.
“I found these text messages the other day between us, you know, the day after,” Hilaria recalled. “And [Alec] said he wanted to kill himself.”
In a confessional for her reality TV show, Hilaria proceeded to claim that Alec, 66, “has survivor’s guilt” over the Rust shooting.
“You’re involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine,” she lamented. “And so he goes back to that day, he wishes it were him. He would change places [with Hutchins] in a second.”
“He’ll never be the same,” Hilaria continued. “This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously the past few years. All of a sudden, he has started having heart problems. He’s been hospitalized multiple times.”
Unfortunately, that’s of little comfort to Hutchins and her family.

Alec Allegedly ‘Fainted’
Hilaria went on to recall a time in which Baldwin allegedly “fainted.” She was then “shaking him. It’s hard sometimes. But, you know, hopefully we’re in the hardest but the tail end of it.”
Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter over Hutchins’s death in January of last year. However, that charge was dismissed in July after his attorneys successfully argued that prosecutors had buried evidence.
“I had to stuff [feelings] down because I had seven kids. I couldn’t really go in the other room and cry or whatever,” Alec recently told People Magazine. He then added that “the emotion is really kind of washing up on me.”

Halyna’s Family Fires Back
The Baldwins, which airs Sunday nights on TLC, follows Alec, Hilaria, and their seven young children. Earlier this week, Hutchins’s family issued a statement condemning the reality show and demanding that Baldwin testify in their wrongful death lawsuit.
“It is long overdue for Alec Baldwin to admit and face the real-life consequences that he caused Halyna’s parents and sister,” Halyna’s parents and sister told People. “It is time for him to face reality under oath.”
“Why is he claiming that he has PTSD?” they later added. “Is his reality show just a veiled attempt to create sympathy for himself with a future jury pool in our civil case? Is this just a shameless attempt to portray him as the real victim in this case?”
Indeed, Hutchins’s family concluded by saying that Baldwin “never called or tried to contact her parents or sister to say that he was sorry, and to this day he has never taken responsibility for Halyna’s death.”
Alec and Hilaria have received quite a bit of backlash for using their reality show to seemingly try to get sympathy over the Rust shooting. It remains to be seen how this will turn out for them.
