Alec Baldwin’s movie Rust had its world premiere in Poland on Wednesday. This came three years after the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set in New Mexico when a gun that Baldwin was holding went off. The bullet fatally struck her and injured Rust director Joel Souza.
Despite this, Baldwin decided to finish Rust and his charges were famously dropped.
The movie is premiering at the Camerimage Festival on Wednesday, November 20. One person who is not attending, however, is Hutchins’ mother Olga Solovey.
Hutchins’ Mother Sounds Off
One day before the Rust premiere, Solovey spoke out to blast Baldwin for continuing to cause her family “pain.”
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” Solovey told The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.”
“Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death,” she continued. “Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter. That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”
Baldwin was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter over the death of Hutchins, 42. However, the case was dismissed days into his trial after a last-minute hearing regarding how police and prosecutors treated a handful of bullets. The judge dismissed the charges against Baldwin without prejudice, meaning he can’t be charged again.
Meanwhile, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is currently serving out an 18-month prison sentence after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Baldwin had been facing that same sentence if he had been convicted as well.

‘Baldwin Has Disrespected’ Hutchins’ Family
In their quest for justice, the Hutchins family is being represented by the renowned attorney Gloria Allred.
“Even though Mr. Baldwin discharged the gun that killed Halyna, he has never called them to apologize,” Allred said. She went on to claim that Baldwin “has disrespected Halyna’s mother, father and sister.”
“Even worse, he argued, through his attorneys, that Halyna was emotionally distant from her family in Ukraine. That is false, hurtful and insulting,” Allred added.
“The decision not to even call the family to say he is sorry is cruel and dishonors Halyna and her memory,” she concluded. “Now, a decision has been made to promote Rust to buyers in order to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others that had a role in Halyna’s death.”
Allred stated that the family “will not agree with this plan to exploit Halyna’s death.”
Rust World Premiere
Tickets for the Rust premiere became available early Tuesday morning. Within minutes, the film festival’s website crashed due to a surge in demand.
Last week, Camerimage director Kazimierz Suwala told THR that the festival had deliberately not invited Baldwin to attend the Rust world premiere.
“We didn’t invite Alec Baldwin, and we never considered doing so,” he explained. “That would be too distracting. What this is about is honoring Halyna’s dreams for her work.”
Many feel that Baldwin should have been held responsible for Hutchins’ death. Indeed, it does seem unfair that Baldwin will be able to profit from Rust after everything that’s happened.
Please pray for Hutchins’ family.
