The new TLC reality show The Baldwins, which stars Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria along with their seven young children, is set to premiere on Sunday.

In a new clip from the debut episode, Alec and Hilaria open up about the infamous Rust shooting that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and for which Baldwin got off scot-free.

Alec And Hilaria Complain About Rust Shooting

“This has been just surreal,” Alec, 66, told Hilaria, 41, in the clip. “I mean, I can’t even believe that we’re going through this, and I always feel more in pain about you than me, because I think to myself, well, you know, I’m going to try to my best to just get through it, and I think what it’s done to you and how much it’s hurt you and everything.”

We can think of two other people who were hurt by the situation. As a matter of fact, one of them is dead now.

“This past year was just terrible,” Alec later added in a confessional. “There were times I’d lay in bed. I’d go, ‘Wow, my kids. I can’t get up.’ That’s not like me. I’m not like that at all, not in any way am I like that. Never.”

The nerve of this guy!

Hilaria then weighed in on the situation in a confessional of her own.

“Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline,” she explained. “He was diagnosed with PTSD, and he says in his darkest moments, ‘If an accident had to have happened this day, why am I still here? Why couldn’t it have been me?’”

When the scene cut back to Hilaria and Alec together, they continued to make this tragedy all about themselves.

“You wake up in the morning and you’re like, ‘Oh god, why did I wake up?’” Hilaria lamented.

Alec responded by recalling not knowing how to answer when asked by a friend how he was doing.

“I said, ‘I’m happier when I’m asleep than when I’m awake,’” Alec stated.

Rust Shooting

On October 27, 2021, a prop gun that Alec was holding on the New Mexico set of his movie Rust went off. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins ended up being killed when this happened, and director Joel Souza was wounded.

Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter over Halyna’s death in January of last year. However, that charge was dismissed in July after his attorneys successfully argued that prosecutors had buried evidence.

In their new reality show, Alec and Hilaria credit their seven young children with helping them to get through this tragedy.

“I look at the kids, and I see how hard we’re trying to create happy for them, even if we’re masking stuff for ourselves,” Hilaria said. “I know that what we’re going through is maybe unique, but every family goes through hard times, and that’s something that we can feel a community of support, knowing that the best that we can do is do our best and try to make our kids happy, and so that’s what we’re doing.”

Alec Agrees

Alec was quick to agree.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids going through this,” he stated. “I never would have made it with this. Sometimes I’d say, ‘Why did I have seven kids? Why do we have seven kids?’ And I realize, to help carry me and you through this situation.”

Many will certainly be disturbed that Alec and Hilaria are seemingly continuing to make a tragedy that cost an innocent woman her life all about themselves. Indeed, at the very least, it appears that the Baldwins are shamelessly trying to use the Rust shooting to drum up interest in their reality show.

The Baldwins premieres on TLC on Sunday at 10pm ET. It will be interesting to see just how successful this reality show will be!
