On January 1, 2023, the Hollywood star Jeremy Renner of Hawkeye fame was nearly killed when he was crushed by a snow plow that weighed over 14,000 pounds.

In a new interview, Renner is revealing the touching message that he signed to his family when he regained consciousness after this accident.

Renner’s Message To His Family

“When I got conscious, my family was there, squeezing my toes and […]. I woke up and they’re all at the foot of the bed, and I signed that I was sorry,” Renner, 53, told Men’s Health.

Though he was  “fully intubated” with a “giant hose” in him, Renner was able to ask for a pencil. He then managed to write, “Holy […]. I’m so sorry. I love you all so much.”

“Seemed like a weird thing to say, but that was the driving energy of me waking in the first place,” Renner explained.

Renner is the oldest of seven children, and his family is devoted to one another.

“I can say I’m […] sorry, and they know what I mean,” he said. “They’re just as gangster for me as I would be for them,” he told the magazine, joking, “They’ll murder people for me, my family.”

‘Everything Was A Disaster’ After Renner’s Accident

Renner recalled that after the accident, “everything was a disaster.” This included such simple things as using the bathroom and taking a shower.

“They give you medications so you don’t go to the bathroom, so you get constipated,” he recounted. “And you pee in a jar. It was awful. That’s when you know things aren’t going great — you’re peeing in a plastic jug. It took me 17 minutes to get out of bed.”

Renner went on to say that at the time, he “was happy to sometimes sit up and push myself into a chair and move a little bit.”

“But a shower — everything took like half a day,” he lamented. “I couldn’t get stuff wet. Your hair gets super greasy and gross and you stink, but I had all these staples I couldn’t wet, and I wasn’t going to […] risk infection. So I had sponge baths.”

Renner’s Accident

On the day of the accident, Renner was towing his nephew’s vehicle after it got stuck in the snow. While he was doing this, the snowplow began to move. Renner immediately took action to stop his nephew from being hurt.

Things went wrong when the snowcat started sliding and then rolling downhill. This led Renner to jump out of the 14,330 pound machine, and he was ultimately crushed by it.

Afterwards, Renner was left with over 30 broken bones. He had breaks to his ribs, knees, ankles, face, pelvis and hands. Meanwhile, other injuries of Renner’s included a collapsed lung, pierced liver and a contusion that left his left eye protruding out of his face.

He’s lucky to be alive, and he knows it.

Renner Has No Regrets

Despite everything that has happened, Renner has no regrets about saving his nephew.

“I’m not letting anybody get hurt on my watch,” he explained, adding that he wasn’t about to let the snowplow crush his nephew. “If it was the other way around, if I didn’t get back on that thing and then it crushed him? I would not be a good man right now. … I’d be […] haunted. Can you imagine?”

“But also, I didn’t do it knowing I’d get hurt, man,” he admitted. “I figured, ‘No problem, I got this. I’ll just dive across these tracks, shut off a button, piece of cake!'”

Thankfully, Renner has recovered enough over the past year and a half that he can return to his acting career. Please join us in saying a prayer for him as he tries to move on from this ordeal!
