The Hollywood legend Carol Burnett was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 Gracie Awards. That’s why we’ve decided to take a closer look at this incredible comedienne and explore her net worth, among other things.

Burnett Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Burnett was presented her lifetime achievement award by her Palm Royale co-star Kristen Wiig.

“It’s been an absolute honor and joy to work alongside you, Carol, in Palm Royale. And I mean this, no one plays coma patient like you,” Wiig said, according to PR Newswire.

As she accepted her award, Burnett paid tribute to the comedic actress Gracie Allen, who the Gracie Awards are named after.

“I was unfortunately (believe it or not!) too young to have met the legendary Gracie Allen, who is the inspiration for these awards, but I think we might have had a lot in common and her iconic work as an artist paved the way for all the women who came after her, including me,” Burnett said.

Burnett’s Net Worth

After decades of success in Hollywood, Burnett has an estimated net worth of $45 million.

Burnett, who turned 91 last month, is best known for starring in her eponymous sketch comedy program “The Carol Burnett Show.” It ran for eleven seasons from 1967-1978, and it is still beloved to this day.

“Burnett’s greatness lies in her versatility, having the ability to do the most with every acting opportunity,” pop culture and entertainment historian Garry Berman recently told the BBC.

Burnett’s History

Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1933, Burnett moved to California with her family as a child. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1951. Her life changed forever when she received an anonymous envelope containing $50 for one year’s tuition at UCLA.

“To this day, I don’t know where that came from,” Burnett later recalled. “Because we didn’t have that kind of money.”

Burnett initially planned to study journalism, but she caught the acting bug as a freshman and quickly made that her focus.

Burnett Gets Lucky Again

After graduating, Burnett got lucky from a benefactor for a second time. While attending a party in San Diego, Burnett and her boyfriend at the time were approached by a man and his wife who offered them each a $1000 interest-free loan after learning that they wanted to move to New York to pursue acting.

The man told Burnett that he would give her the money on the condition that she never reveal his name, and that she pay him back in five years if she was financially able to.

“His wife told me he had also helped somebody start a restaurant and another person run a gas station. He liked the people he picked and felt that they had a chance and were sincere, so he sponsored them,” Burnett previously recounted. “Somebody had helped him get his start in this country. So he was paying it forward.”

In her latest interview, Burnett stated that she did pay him back five years later, and she’s kept her word to him to this day by never revealing his name.

“Weird things happen like that,” she said.

From there, the rest is history!

Burnett is a true legend, and there will never be another one like her. We applaud the Gracie Awards for giving this icon the lifetime achievement award that she deserves!
