Christian Actor Mark Wahlberg Wants To Do Movies ‘The Whole Entire Family Can See’

Mark Wahlberg, who has long been one of the only devout Christians left in Hollywood, is speaking out this week to say that he’s determined to make family-friendly films moving forward.

Wahlberg Wants To Make Family-Friendly Films

“You know, I do enjoy doing things that the whole entire family can see. Look, I’m 52 years old now. I’m a dad of four. I’ve got a kid in college,” he tells Yahoo Entertainment. “I like playing age-appropriate roles. I think a lot of people don’t embrace that and audiences are like — this doesn’t seem real.”

Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Dunham are parents to Ella, 20, Michael, 17, Brendan, 15 and Grace, 14.

Wahlberg went on to say that he believes that one thing that audiences want to see is “the guy and the gal being in the same age bracket,” which has been the case in many of his recent films.

“There’s many different things that I think audiences frown upon and I want to do things that are believable and realistic,” he explained.

That being said, this does not mean that Wahlberg’s days of starring in projects like 1997’s Boogie Nights, in which he played a porn star, are behind him for good.

“Listen, if the right script comes, I don’t rule anything out,” he said.

For now, however, Wahlberg is focused on making “meaningful” projects.

Wahlberg’s Christian Faith

Wahlberg has long been known as one of the only Christian stars in Hollywood.

“It’s a balance,” he said last year, according to AOL. “I don’t want to jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith. That’s an even bigger sin.”

“You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but I cannot deny my faith,” Wahlberg added. “It’s important for me to share that with people. But, I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”

Last month, Wahlberg starred in a Super Bowl ad for the Catholic prayer app Hallow. Afterwards, he went on “Fox & Friends” to talk about why he feels that it is essential to start the day with prayer.

People are always asking, what are you giving up?” Wahlberg began. “I’ve given many things up for Lent, whether it be… alcohol or something… sweet, but for me, it’s really about trying to do more… trying to be better, trying to grow as a person, as a servant. God, a father, a husband… as an example… and using all that real-life experience that I have.”

Wahlberg Starts Every Day With Prayer

Wahlberg went on to say that he “absolutely” begins each morning by falling to his knees in prayer.

“People always ask ‘why can’t you have a normal schedule?’ My thing is, if I’m at home, I do all the things that I need to do that are personal time, before the kids and my wife get up,” he explained. “I always get eight hours of sleep. It’s not like I’m burning the candle at both ends, per se. I’m getting the rest that I need.”

“In a perfect world, I’ll go to bed at 7-7:30, wake up at 3-3:30 and then do my things, get those out of the way before I start my day with my family or work,” he added. “I have a lot to be grateful for.”

“I think it gives me a bit of credibility with people who have been struggling and who have faced adversity,” Wahlberg continued. “We just want to be able to do more, and I think, what better than to have Ash Wednesday fall on Valentine’s Day? Because where do you get more love than with the Lord and… in a time where there’s such a disconnect? We need things to bring people together and the power of prayer is doing that.”

Hollywood has devolved to the point where it’s hard to find movies that are appropriate for the whole family to watch. That’s why we applaud Wahlberg for devoting himself to making films that the entire family can enjoy!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
