Last week, we reported that the Hollywood star Kevin Costner was blindsided when his wife Christine Baumgartner, who he’s been married to for eighteen years, filed for divorce. It was then announced that Costner’s show “Yellowstone” will be coming to an end after the current fifth season.

Now, sources close to Costner are speaking out to claim that these two things have nothing to do with each other.

Costner’s Divorce

One insider told People Magazine that Costner’s divorce “has nothing to do with ‘Yellowstone,'” adding that “the two situations are unrelated.”

Baumgartner, 49, filed for divorce from Costner, 68, early last week.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” a representative for Costner said afterwards. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Costner had been married to Baumgartner since 2004, and they are parents to three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.

“It was not anything that he wanted or sought,” the insider said. “And if he could change the situation, he would.”

Costner ‘Stunned’ By Divorce Filing

Another longtime friend of Costner’s told Page Six that the actor was left “stunned” when he learned of his wife’s divorce filing.

“Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s actions, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take her back,” the insider said. “It’s disappointing, he loves her and he loves his children.”

“There was no issue of cheating at all,” this source added.

When asked why Baumgartner filed for divorce, the longtime friend of Costner’s replied, “I have no idea if Kevin even knows what the reasons are.”

Costner and Baumgartner began dating in 2000, and they married in 2004 on a ranch in Aspen, Colorado. He was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. Costner’s marriage to Silva ended amidst accusations that he’d cheated on her with a hula dancer while filming his movie Waterworld.

Costner is also father to son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after divorcing Silva.

‘Yellowstone’ Ending

Days after the divorce filing, Daily Mail reported that the end of “Yellowstone” was announced by Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

“‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits — from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan [the show’s creator] and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” McCarthy said.

Deadline previously reported that Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star in a sequel series to “Yellowstone.” A Paramount spokesman said that “McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

The sequel series will air on Paramount Network and then stream exclusively on Paramount+.

This is clearly a very difficult time for Costner both personally and professionally. Please join us in saying a prayer for him as he deals with these setbacks.
