Kevin Costner, the 68 year-old star of “Yellowstone,” has been left devastated after his wife Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce. This came after 18 years of marriage and three children together.

Costner’s Wife Files For Divorce

Daily Mail reported that Baumgartner, 49, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, and she asked for joint custody of their three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12. Costner filed his response yesterday and also asked for joint custody.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s representative said in a statement

“We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the statement concluded.

Baumgartner is believed to not be filing for spousal support, and Costner responded to her filing through the attorney Laura Wasser.

“Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement,” she said, indicating that there is a pre-nuptial agreement in place between Costner and Baumgartner.

Costner and Baumgartner began dating in 2000, and they married in 2004 on a ranch in Aspen, Colorado. He was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35.

Costner is also father to son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after divorcing Silva.

Costner’s ‘Yellowstone’ Drama

This comes at a difficult time for Costner, as rumors have been swirling that there has been tensions behind the scenes between him and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan that has halted production of the series. Sources alleged that Costner was told to “stick to acting” when he voiced concerns about the direction the show was taking.

“Kevin will forever be proud of and grateful for ‘Yellowstone’ and the cast is like family to him,” one insider said of Costner. “He just felt like ‘Yellowstone’ is headed in a direction that was not in line with their initial vision and he was met with criticism, including that he should just stick to acting.”

Reports also circulated last year that Baumgartner was tired of Costner’s demanding work schedule.

“It’s really knocked a hole in their family life,” a source told RadarOnline. “The show is such a mega-hit, producers want it to go on forever!”

Baumgartner’s Alleged Ultimatum To Costner

This insider went on to claim that Baumgartner had gone so far as to issue an ultimatum to her husband.

“However, Christine wants her husband to hang up his cowboy hat,” the source claimed. “She wants a firm commitment this is his last season — or he might have to hit the dusty trail!”

On top of all of that, Costner has been busy directing his epic Western saga Horizon, which consists of four separate movies that will be released three months apart from each other. Each movie is believed to be nearly three hours long, and once they are released, they will be broken down into an episodic television series.

Costner clearly has a lot on his plate right now, so it’s sad to see that his marriage has fallen apart in the process. Divorce is never easy, particularly when there are children involved, so we can only hope that it goes as smoothly as possible for him and Baumgartner.
