Last week, we reported that the Hollywood star Kevin Costner was blindsided when his wife Christine Baumgartner, who he’s been married to for eighteen years, filed for divorce. It was then announced days later that Costner’s show “Yellowstone” will be coming to an end after the current fifth season.

Now, sources close to the family are saying that Baumgartner, 49, was “unhappy” with her 68 year-old husband’s hectic work schedule before she filed.

Baumgartner ‘Wasn’t Happy’ With Costner’s Work Schedule

“Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home,” one source told People Magazine. “During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”

“Christine doesn’t want him to throw himself into another project,” the source continued. “He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn’t happy about it.”

Another source in the entertainment world said that “at times, his career has taken precedence over his home life.”

“Kevin hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand,” this insider added. “All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn’t look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home.”

Baumgartner Files For Divorce

Baumgartner cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce last week, and she listed April 11 as their date of separation.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s rep said in response. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Sources close to Costner have claimed that he did not want the divorce.

“It was not anything that he wanted or sought,” the insider said. “And if he could change the situation, he would.”

Costner and Baumgartner have been married since September of 2004, and they are parents to three children: sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, plus daughter Grace, 12.

He was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. Costner’s marriage to Silva ended amidst accusations that he’d cheated on her with a hula dancer while filming his movie Waterworld.

Costner is also father to son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after divorcing Silva.

‘Yellowstone’ Ends – Costner ‘Shooting Right Now’

Days after Baumgartner filed for divorce, Daily Mail reported that the end of “Yellowstone” was announced by Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

“‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits — from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan [the show’s creator] and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” McCarthy said.

Costner was said to be in Utah filming his upcoming Western epic Horizons when Baumgartner filed for divorce.

“He’s shooting right now and it’s all very upsetting, you don’t expect your wife to file for divorce when you least expect it,” a friend of his said.

This is clearly a very difficult time for Costner both personally and professionally. Please join us in saying a prayer for him during this difficult time.
