A truly shocking story has just come out of Spain, where a famous television star has used her late son’s sperm to father a child via surrogate, and she has since adopted the baby.

Mother Uses Son’s Sperm To Father Child

Fox News reported that Ana Obregón, 68, is a famous TV star and socialite in Spain who lost her only child Alejandro Alfonso “Aless” Lequio to cancer back in 2020. She’s since dealt with her grief by using her son’s sperm to father a baby girl via surrogate.

“This was Aless’s last will, to bring a child of his into the world,” Obregón said. “What has allowed me to continue living every day is fulfilling this mission.”

The baby was born in a hospital in Miami, Florida on March 20, and Obregón has named her Ana Sandra Lequio Obregón, with her nickname being Anita. The actress did not reveal the identity of the surrogate, only saying that she is a Cuban woman living in Miami, and that she used a donor egg.

The child was likely born in the United States because surrogacy is banned in Spain, although children conceived through surrogacy can be adopted from another country there.

Obregón went on to say that the process to fulfill her son’s final wish began “the day my child went to heaven.”

“She is Aless’ daughter and when she grows up I will tell her that her dad was a hero, so she knows who he is and how proud she should be of him,” she said, adding that Anita is “very good, a big eater and sleeper, and calm.”

Obregón Announces Birth

Obregón announced Anita’s birth on the cover of the Spanish magazine ¡HOLA!, which she also shared on Instagram.

“I swore I would save you from cancer and I failed you. I promised you I’d bring your daughter into the world and here she is in my arms,” she wrote in Spanish in the caption. “When I hug you I feel an indescribable emotion, because it’s like I’m hugging you again. I swear I will take care of her with the infinite love I have to give and you will help me from heaven.”

“You are the love of my life in heaven and your daughter is the love of my life on earth,” she continued. “I love you to death. Mom.”

Obregón Hit With Backlash

Obregón using a surrogate to welcome her child has been met with backlash in Spain, according to Today Online

“It is a form of violence against women,” said Equality Minister Irene Montero, adding that there is a “clear poverty bias” with regards to women who become surrogates because they need the money.

Obregón, however, is not backing down.

“People here are open-minded, but in Spain, my God, we are in the last century,” she said.

Obregón concluded by saying that her son initially wanted five children, so she has not ruled out using more surrogates in the future.

“This girl isn’t my daughter, but my granddaughter,” Obregón explained of Anita. “If that was my son’s last will and testament, how could I not do it?”

These truly are some crazy times that we are living in! Whether you support what Obregón did or not, it can’t be denied that our ancestors never could have imagined anything like this happening.
