Earlier this week, we reported that the country music star Morgan Wallen had enraged his fans by cancelling a concert in Mississippi on Sunday night minutes before he was set to go on. Now, Wallen is speaking out through his team to deny rumors that he cancelled this concert because he was “too drunk” to perform.

Wallen Denies Being ‘Too Drunk’ To Perform

Fox News reported that in a TikTok video that has gone viral, a security guard working at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford alleged that Wallen, 29, was too drunk to perform, adding that the country music star’s claim that he’d lost his voice was “bull crap.” The security guard went on to allege that an ambulance had to come pick up Wallen from the venue.

Big Loud CEO Seth England, however, has since spoken out to claim that this is not what happened.

“A hired employee of BEST Crowd Management made false claims as it related to last night’s Morgan Wallen concert and we do not stand behind the detail in his statement,” England said. “Please refer to Morgan’s social media pages for details.”

“Thank you @bestcrowdmanagement for correcting your employee, who made up an entire story that was nowhere close to true,” he added. “Every detail was false. Laughable what some people will just say for a reaction… Don’t Believe Everything You Read.”

Wallen Defends Himself

Wallen attempted to defend himself the day after he cancelled the show.

“After last night’s show I started losing my voice so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better,” he said. “I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing.”

Billboard reported that Wallen has since postponed three upcoming shows in Michigan (April 27), Illinois (April 28), and Nebraska (April 29), claiming that he’s been put on “doctor-ordered vocal rest.”

“Y’all know how important my fans are to me, so I feel horrible about this news,” Wallen explained on his Instagram Stories. “There’s nothing more I want to do than be on stage playing for you guys. But as of today, I’m on doctor-ordered vocal rest, and we have to reschedule this week’s shows.”

Wallen’s Drunken N-Word Scandal

If Wallen was indeed “too drunk” to perform, it would not be the first time that alcohol had gotten him in trouble. Back in 2021, Wallen was caught on camera dropping the n-word after a drunken night out with friends.

“I was around some of my friends and we just, we say dumb stuff together. In our minds it’s playful. It sounds ignorant but that’s really where it came from, and it’s wrong,” Wallen said afterwards. “We were all clearly drunk and I was asking his girlfriend to take care of him because he was drunk and he was leaving. I didn’t mean it in any derogatory manner at all.”

Wallen claimed to get sober in the wake of this incident.

Regardless of the reason why Wallen cancelled his concert, fans are still angry that he did so just minutes before he was set to perform. Should Wallen need to cancel a concert again, he might want to consider giving his fans more notice.
