Yesterday, we reported that the country music star Morgan Wallen had enraged his fans by cancelling a concert on Sunday night minutes before he was set to go on. Now, this has come back to bite him in a big way, as a former fan has filed a lawsuit against him for doing this.

Wallen Hit With Lawsuit

Yahoo News reported that Wallen, 29, cancelled his concert on Sunday night minutes before he was scheduled to begin his performance at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, claiming that he did so because he’d lost his voice.

One of the 60,000 fans that attended the concert has since filed a complaint alleging that Wallen violated his own refund terms by canceling the event and that they are “entitled to refunds of the out-of-pocket expenses they incurred in connection with the canceled performance.” While Wallen promised that all tickets would be refunded, the lawsuit argues that all related purchases should also be covered.

“Even if ticket prices are refunded, no offer has been made to reimburse concertgoers for other out-of-pocket expenses they incurred in connection with the concert cancellation, including transportation, lodging, food, merchandise sales, transaction fees, and other such expenses,” the lawsuit read.

The complaint went on to claim that Wallen had “assumed a duty to exercise due and reasonable care for the financial property interests of his patrons” who had spent money to attend the concert, including “ensuring foreseeable cancellations are announced in a timely manner in order to mitigate any damages incurred.”

The plaintiff is seeking “money damages in an amount that will fairly and reasonably compensate them for the harm” caused by Wallen, on top of additional relief for the  “mental anguish” that they faced because of the country music star’s “willful, reckless and intentional conduct” at the show.

Wallen Tried To Apologize

Wallen had tried to apologize for canceling the concert on his Instagram Stories later Sunday night.

“After last night’s show I started losing my voice so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better,” he explained, according to Fox News.

“I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing,” he added. “I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could.”

Wallen Postpones Shows

Billboard reported that Wallen has since postponed three upcoming shows in Michigan (April 27), Illinois (April 28), and Nebraska (April 29), claiming that he’s been put on “doctor-ordered vocal rest.”

“Y’all know how important my fans are to me, so I feel horrible about this news,” Wallen explained on his Instagram Stories. “There’s nothing more I want to do than be on stage playing for you guys. But as of today, I’m on doctor-ordered vocal rest, and we have to reschedule this week’s shows.”

Wallen’s fans are loyal to their core, as they even stuck by him through his infamous n-word scandal that saw him be targeted by cancel culture. While his health should always come first, he might want to think twice before he cancels a show minutes before showtime again, because it would be a shame for him to lose his devoted fanbase.

It remains to be seen how the lawsuit against Wallen will turn out.
