Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of the former President George W. Bush, spoke out this week to reveal that her seventh grade boyfriend broke up with her after seeing her “in a bathing suit.”

Bush Hager Body-Shamed By Ex

“It’s so interesting because people really do hit you right where it hurts,” Bush Hager, 41, said on the “Today” show on Wednesday morning, according to Page Six.

“I had a boyfriend in seventh grade who broke up with me after we went swimming together, after he saw me in a bathing suit,” she added.

Bush Hager went on to talk about the impact that body shaming can have on a person.

“I feel like even sometimes now when I feel great — I have three kids, three C-sections, I feel really in my body and I think of it as a beautiful thing — I’ll walk in a pool and have a moment,” she continued.

Bush Hager shares her daughters Mila, 9, and Poppy, 7, and son Hal, 3, with her husband Henry Hager, and she explained that her experience with her seventh grade boyfriend has inspired her to strive for her own children to become “loving” human beings.

“All we want is loving children. We don’t need the star kid, the this, the that. We want kids that are kind,” she said of her parenting style. “The way you do that is model it.”

Ariana Grande’s Viral TikTok

Bush Hager told this story during a segment in which she and her co-host Hoda Kotb discussed comments made by the pop star Ariana Grande, who recently hit back at internet trolls who have said that she looks “too thin” and unhealthy in a TikTok video that has since gone viral.

“The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body,” said Grande, 29. “I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly.”

“[I was] at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy, but that in fact wasn’t my healthy,” she added.

Bush Hager Discusses Her Parents

In November of last year, Bush Hager opened up about what George W. and Laura Bush were like as parents to her and her twin sister Barbara.

“We had curfews, they weren’t that strict,” she said, according to People Magazine.

That is, however, unless her parents caught her in a lie.

“There was a party senior year of high school, and I went to it [saying] I was ‘spending the night at Ferrell Fields’ house,’ and all of a sudden my parents show up,” Bush Hager recalled. “They took me and Barbara out of that party. They weren’t strict but if they said ‘no’ and we went behind their back…

“”I sat and did puzzles with my parents while all the other people [went out],” she continued, referring to her punishment. “They’re like, ‘Would you like some hot chocolate?’ Like, ‘Not really.’ I mean, we were grounded. Remember, grounded was a thing. Grounded was a thing.”

While it’s sad that Bush Hager was body-shamed by her childhood boyfriend, it’s clear that she was able to turn that experience into a positive when it comes to raising her own children. Body-shaming should be something that we can all rally against, so let’s try to make sure the younger generation is as kind to one another as possible!
