‘Dukes Of Hazzard’ Star John Schneider Celebrates First Birthday Since Losing His Wife

Two months ago, we reported that the Hollywood star John Schneider of “Dukes Of Hazzard” fame had lost his wife Alicia Allain to cancer when she was only 53 years-old. On Saturday, Schneider had a tough time as he had to celebrate his first birthday without his beloved wife.

Schneider’s Birthday Letter To His Wife

April 8 marked Schneider’s 63rd birthday, and he started off the day by penning an open letter to his wife and posting it to his Facebook page. As with most of the letters that he’s written to his wife in the weeks since her death, he began it by referring to her by her nickname “Smile.”

“Today is one of those ‘First’s’ Ive been warned about,” he wrote. “And on this first I woke up thinking…I don’t actually think anyone really knows how much I love you.”

“Well… I take that back,” he continued. “One person does. Only one person really needs to… You. As long as you know that I love you more than anything…Ever. More than popcorn…Air. Sunshine…More than life itself…Then I’m good with that.”

After continuing to profess his love for Allain, Schneider asked her to “take great care of this old heart of mine because it’s fragile right now and already broken.”

“But I know you’ve ‘Got me’ because I’ve been in you capable hands for all that time and have no fear of your skill…Your talent…Or your love for me,” he concluded. “I have never been so loved.”

Allain’s ‘Birthday Present’ For Schneider

The next day, Schneider wrote another open letter to his late wife in which he talked about how the rest of his birthday went for him.

“Thank you for my birthday present yesterday,” he began. “The day started out really rough. I sat on a bench on the beach alone (where we should have been sitting together) and happened to look at the plaque on it. It was dedicated to ‘My wonderful wife. She loved this beach.'” That was my first sign from you because I could have sat anywhere. I cried.”

“Then I sat on the steps of our friends house for a few minutes…And cried,” he added. “Then I looked up and saw the tire cover on the Jeep across the street…A Smiley face. I laughed and cried at the same time as I was sending that picture to our daughter, Jessica. Then she sent me a picture of the socks she was wearing… A Smiley face. I cried and laughed a bit more. You are everywhere my dear love.”

Schneider went on to make it clear that he felt his wife’s presence throughout his birthday. He also wished her a happy Easter, saying that “it must be a glorious sight up there.”

“Please show me a sign that I am on the right track and not just a shattered and delusional man who had a birthday. Something…Perfect,” he wrote later in the letter. “Just like you. Just like us. Perfect in every way.”

Schneider In Happier Times

On a more upbeat note, the comedian and country music singer Ray Stevens celebrated Schneider’s birthday by sharing a throwback clip of the two of them performing the “Dukes Of Hazzard” theme song “Good Ol’ Boys” during some happier times.

Check out that performance in the video below.

Schneider is clearly going through a very difficult time right now, and anyone who has lost a loved one knows that he still has a long way to go in the grieving process. Please join us in saying a prayer for Schneider as he continues to come to terms with this devastating loss.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
