Carrie Fisher Of ‘Star Wars’ Fame To Receive Major Honor Seven Years After Her Death

It’s been nearly seven years since the iconic Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher passed away of a heart attack at the age of 60, but she’s still missed by millions of fans to this day. Now, it’s been announced that Fisher is about to receive a major honor that her fans have felt is a long time coming.

Fisher’s Honor

Fox News reported that it’s just been announced that Fisher will be given a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony on May 4, which fans celebrate as Star Wars Day. This will be the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures, and it’ll be located near the historic El Capitan Theatre.

“Fans will be over the moon to know that their favorite movie princess, Carrie Fisher will be honored with her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame! Carrie will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I am happy to add, that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds!” she added.

Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker alongside Fisher’s Princess Leia in Star Wars, took to Twitter to celebrate this honor.

“Long overdue & so well-deserved,” he wrote, adding the hashtag, “#CarrieOnForever.”

People Magazine reported that Hamill was given his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2018, while his Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford earned his in 2003. Meanwhile, Fisher’s mother Reynolds was given her star back in 1960.

Fisher’s Death

Fisher had been on a flight from London to Los Angeles on December 23, 2016 when she suffered a heart attack, and she died four days later on December 27.  Reynolds tragically died of a hemorrhagic stroke just one day after Fisher passed away in December of 2016 at the age of 84, and her son Todd Fisher blamed his sister’s death for their mother’s passing.

“She went to be with Carrie. In fact, those were the last words that she spoke this morning,” he told E! News afterwards. “More specifically, she said that she really, she was under a lot of stress.”

“She held it together beautifully, obviously, for the last couple of days but she was under a lot of emotion and stress from the loss [of Carrie] and it’s pretty much what triggered this event,” he continued. “She didn’t get to see her because Carrie was on her way back from England and none of us really got to see her other than in the hospital.”

Fisher’s Career

Aside from Star Wars, Fisher also starred in such classic hit movies as When Harry Met Sally, Hannah and Her Sisters and The Blues Brothers. Television roles of hers included Emmy-nominated guest appearances on the shows “30 Rock” and “Catastrophe,” the latter of which was a post-humous nomination.

On top of her acting career, Fisher was a bestselling novelist who wrote books like “Postcards from the Edge,” “Delusions of Grandma,” “Surrender the Pink,” “The Best Awful,” “Wishful Drinking” and “Shockaholic.”

Fisher was a true legend, and she will always live on through her legendary Star Wars role. If anyone deserves a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it’s her!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
