Matthew McConaughey And Wife’s Plane Plummets Over 4,000 Ft. In Terrifying Ordeal

The Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey went through a terrifying ordeal on Wednesday night when an airplane that they were on plummeted over 4,000 feet due to severe turbulence.

‘The Plane Was Chaos’

Daily Mail reported that McConaughey and his wife were passengers on Lufthansa Flight 469, which was flying from Austin, Texas to Frankfurt, Germany. The plane was over Tennessee when crew members reported severe turbulence, and Alves later described the scene on the plane as pure “chaos.”

Alves McConaughey took to Instagram the next day to share video of the aftermath from the turbulence.

“On Flight last night, plane dropped almost 4000 feet, 7 people went to the hospital, Everything was flying everywhere,” she wrote alongside the video. “To respect the privacy of those around me that’s all I am showing but the plane was a CHAOS And the turbulence keep on coming.”

“The @lufthansa flight you are seeing on the news today!!!! Yes…that one. Thank God everyone was safe and ok,” the Brazilian supermodel added.

Due to the severe turbulence, the flight was forced to divert to Dulles Airport outside of Washington D.C. In her post, Alves McConaughey made a point of thanking staffers at the Marriot Bonvoy that is located near the airport.

“I must say everyone @marriotbonvoy by the airport of Washington where we had to divert to and spend the night was so kind!” she said. “And we made it to the bar with 1 minute before closing…slept well, getting on new flight today, To the journey I continue… Karin Lacy was a savior with me until 1am working on new flights!!”

Plane Went Into ‘Free Fall’

Seven people were taken to the hospital after the original flight landed in Washington D.C. A spokesperson for Lufthansa confirmed to Insider that the flight experienced “brief severe turbulence” about 90 minutes into its route, which led to an emergency landing.

“This was so-called clear air turbulence, which can occur without visible weather phenomena or advance warning,” the spokesperson stated, adding that some passengers suffered “minor injuries” and were given medical care on the flight. One passenger told The Washington Post that the flight went into “free fall” while the flight attendants were serving dinner.

Later on Thursday, Alves McConaughey took to her Instagram Story to let her fans know that she had made it on another flight to Frankfurt.

“Just my luck, after last night. Just got on the rescheduled flight and the pilot’s saying we have 45 minutes of turbulence, getting out of Washington,” she said. “Just my luck. Wish me luck.”

While Alves McConaughey has given no further updates at the time of this writing, it can be assumed that she and her husband made it to their destination safe and sound this time.

McConaugheys Raising Children In Texas

Alves McConaughey and McConaughey have been married since 2012, and they have three children together. In an interview last year, Alves McConaughey talked about how much she loves raising her family in Texas, far away from the crazy world of Hollywood.

“It’s been great,” she told Fox News of living in Texas. “It really embodies our belief system, especially the ones I grew up with, like going to church every Sunday, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no, sir.’ I grew up saying those things coming from a family of farmers.”

“For me, being from Brazil and then coming to Texas, I discovered a lot of similarities in terms of what families practice here, especially going to church on Sundays, and being very into the outdoors,” she continued. “It’s been a great transition.”

Anyone who has ever experienced severe turbulence on a flight knows how terrifying that can be. We’re so glad that the McConaugheys and their fellow passengers managed to eventually land safely, and we hope that their next flight was a better experience for them!

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
