Matthew McConaughey Shares His Simple Secret To Keeping His Marriage And Wife Camila Alves Happy

Matthew McConaughey’s Secret To His Happy Marriage

In a new interview, Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey revealed his simple secret for keeping his marriage a happy one.

“‘I’m good. Family’s good. Dogs are healthy. Wife doesn’t want to kick me out,” he joked, according to Daily Mail. 

 When asked how he keeps things peaceful around the house, McConaughey replied, “Don’t make a straight line crooked.”

“If things are going well, keep catching green lights,” he explained. “If they’re not, deal with them soon so they don’t bubble up and get you later.”

McConaughey has previously said that Alves “challenges” him. 

“I’ve got a wife who challenges me. There were two movies I wanted to do last year, but they were back-to-back with no separation,” he said in another interview. “She was like, ‘You want to do it – buck up, grab your nuts, and make it happen. We’ll be there with you.’ Papa goes to work, the circus goes with him…”

Wife Camilla Alves Describes Matthew McConaughey As A Father

McConaughey and Alves have been married since 2012, and they share three children together: Levi, 13, Vida, 11, and Livingston, 8.

Back in October, Alves told the TODAY Show that McConaughey is “actually very disciplined and very hands-on” as a father. 

“He is chill and laid back, but he’s also, he has a very disciplined mentality, right?” she said. “Like, that’s how he’s been able to do the work he’s done and accomplish what he does.”

Despite his fame as an A-list Academy Award-winning star, McConaughey is no different than any other parent at home, according to his wife. 

“It’s just like raising kids with, you know, as any family would do,” she said. “It’s got its challenges and its blessings, but I would say it’s fun.”

The father of three and Sing 2 star recently discussed why he prefers starring in family-friendly films these days to politics.

‘I Don’t Raise My Children The Same Way My Parents Raised Me’

McConaughey has been open about wanting to raise his kids differently than how he was raised.

“I don’t raise my children the same way my parents raised me … but I don’t dare judge how my parents did it because every single time I got in trouble or got the belt or whatever, I earned it,” he said last year, referring to his own “bloody, ugly, sometimes violent” childhood.  

“I choose in our family to have much more dialogue than my parents choose or their parents choose,” the actor added at the time. “My wife and I do a little more explaining. ‘OK, let’s debate this out.’ … And even today, my mom goes, ‘Geez, y’all talk about it too much.'”

It’s so refreshing to know that Matthew McConaughey is just as much of a down-to-earth family man in real life as he comes across onscreen!
