Things got awkward on the ABC talk show “The View” on Wednesday when Whoopi Goldberg had a unique reaction to her co-host Joy Behar claiming that she was “happy” when she was fired from the show back in 2013.

Behar ‘Happy’ To Be Fired From ‘The View’

Behar, 80, was one of the original hosts of “The View” when it premiered back in 1997, and she was inexplicably fired from the program in 2013, only to be brought back two years later. On yesterday’s show, the women of “The View” brought up an interview that Behar gave to Time Magazine last year in which she claimed she was “happy” to be fired from the show.

“I always have friends where I work, and if I don’t have friends at the job, I will not keep the job,” Behar explained. “So, when I was fired last time from this show, people say to me, ‘Were you okay with that?’ and my answer is, I was happy, because all my friends had left already. So, there was no reason to stay anymore. I mean it.”

Goldberg, who was already a co-host on “The View” at the time that Behar was fired, asked her incredulously, “Really? All your friends left?” She then pretended to cry as she joked, “It’s okay, I’m cool.”

“You had just come on, and my backstage friends had left. And I don’t like to work when I don’t have friends,” Behar said as she tried to defend herself. Goldberg fired back by saying that they had “been friends for a long time,” though she added that she was only “teasing” her.

Behar Discusses Firing

Behar previously admitted that it wasn’t her decision to leave “The View” when she was fired back in 2013.

“Somebody wanted me gone,” she told People Magazine in 2017. “It was not 100 percent my choice.”

“When they told me they weren’t renewing, I said, ‘Good, I’m out of here.’ I didn’t like the way the show was going at that time,” Behar continued.

Behar went on to say that she was never given a straight answer as to why she was fired.

“The way I heard it, and I don’t know what’s true because you never know, they got rid of a Republican so they wanted to get rid of a Democrat,” she said. “That’s not the first time I’ve been fired for my politics. So I wasn’t shocked at that analysis.”

Behar Not Going Anywhere

Despite turning 80 in October, Behar has made it clear that she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

“Joe Biden and I are the same age. Would you say I could not do my job for the next four years? Of course I can,” Behar said on yesterday’s show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“And the haters can go stick their heads in something, because I’m not moving out of this seat,” she added.

Behar also said around the time of her birthday that she has “no plans to retire.”

“I just signed a contract so I’ll be here for a while,” Behar told People Magazine in October. “I have no plans to retire.”

“It’s really, you know, something that is an important show in many ways,” she went on to say of the ABC talk show. “Sometimes I don’t believe that, as I’ve been here since the beginning, but we’re the most-watched show in daytime. Most-watched! I’m happy to be a part of it. So no, I’m not going anywhere. I’m having a good time.”

Many would love to see Behar be fired from “The View” once again, given how ignorant many of the liberal views that she spouts on a daily basis on the show really are. It remains to be seen how much longer ABC executives will think it’s worth keeping her around!
