Joy Behar stooped to a new low on the ABC talk show “The View” yesterday when she shamelessly used the collapse of NFL star Damar Hamlin to attack “heterosexual men” and “conservatives.”

Behar’s Sexist Rant

After the 24 year-old Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, Behar somehow managed to place the blame on “heterosexual men” and “conservatives,” which are two of her favorite groups of people to target.

“45% of Americans think that tackle football is appropriate. Heterosexual men voted the most support for kids doing football. And conservatives were more likely to support youth tackle football. Just saying,” Behar said with noticeable disdain in her voice, according to Fox News

In the days since Hamlin collapsed, calls have grown for the NFL to increase its safety measures. Behar’s co-host Sunny Hostin appeared to agree with this as she recounted a story of her son quitting football after he suffered a hamstring injury while playing the sport.

“He realized at that point, uh-oh. I could – that could happen to my brain, and so he quit,” Hostin said.

‘Football Was Just The Norm’

Co-host Sara Haines appeared to try to defend the sport of football by pointing out that it is a “huge part of tradition” in this country.

“I grew up, and football was just the norm,” Haines said, according to Daily Mail. “My parents went to the games long after we were even in high school because the whole town did. I loved ‘Friday Night Lights,’ etc. etc. What it might change is people that have kids coming up because like me, you even wouldn’t have known all the damage that could be done now.”

However, Haines then completely backtracked from defending football, saying that she wouldn’t even let her children “fall in love” with the sport because of the concerns that she has over CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopath), which is linked to repeated head trauma and has been found in football players as well as those who take part in other full-contact sports.

“I think a lot of mothers certainly feel that way and have felt that way for a long time, but it’s – the way my son describes it is, it’s a family,” Hostin chimed back in to add. “It’s a bonding experience that he had never had before.”

Behar concluded the segment by saying that people should play sports like golf or tennis instead of football. Check out the full segment in the video below.

Unfortunately for Behar, however, her comments about “heterosexual men” are being widely panned online:

Hamlin Is ‘Making Progress’

Though Hamlin remains in critical condition, his father told the Bills team on Wednesday that he is “making progress.”

“Damar Hamlin’s father, Mario Hamlin, addressed the entire Bills team on a zoom call Wednesday to personally update everyone in attendance on his son, per source,” ESPN reporter Adam Schefter tweeted this morning. “Mario Hamlin informed the Bills that Damar was making progress and, in the words of one source, ‘the team needed it.’”

The Buffalo Bills also released a statement saying that Hamlin has shown “remarkable improvement” over the past day.

It’s both absurd and sexist that Behar would use Hamlin’s cardiac arrest to attack “heterosexual men” and “conservatives.” If she were a male pundit trying to slam “heterosexual women” and liberals in such a way, she would likely be fired by ABC on the spot. Since she was only ranting against straight men and conservatives, however, Behar likely will not be punished in any way for her sexist remarks.

It’s truly sad to see what our society has come to.
