Fans Beg Golden Globes To Bring Ricky Gervais Back As Host After ‘Boring’ Jerrod Carmichael Bombs

The Golden Globe Awards took place last night with the comedian Jerrod Carmichael acting as the host. Unfortunately for him, however, viewers are saying that he did such a bad job that the show was “unwatchable,” and many are begging the Hollywood Foreign Press to bring back the legendary Ricky Gervais as host next year.

Carmichael Goes Woke

While hosting last night, Carmichael went full woke when he said, “I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m here ’cause I’m black.”

The 35 year-old comedian went on to claim that he was sipping tea when he got the call asking him to become the “black face of an embattled white organization. Life really comes at you fast.”

In the end, Carmichael decided to “take the white people money” and do the job after learning that it would pay $500,000. Check out his monologue (if you dare) in the video below. 

Carmichael’s hosting style could not have been more different from that of Gervais, who hilariously roasted members of the Hollywood elite when he would host the Golden Globes. The 61 year-old star of the British version of “The Office” hosted the awards show on five occasions, hosting from 2010-2012, then returning again in 2016 and 2020. 

Daily Mail reported that after he last hosted the Golden Globes three years ago, Gervais pledged that he would never do it again, but that hasn’t stopped fans from calling for him to be brought back after Carmichael bombed.

Fans Want Gervais Back

“Bring back Ricky Gervais!! The job of the host is to be funny and entertain,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Following Ricky Gervais on the Golden Globe awards is like coming on stage after The Beatles of Elvis.”

“Where’s Ricky Gervais? This award show unwatchable,” commented a third user, with a fourth writing, “Dear @rickygervais if they are going to keep broadcasting this thing called @goldenglobes. You have to come back. It’s not the same. It’s boring. It’s horrid.”

Gervais On Hosting Again

Last year, Gervais said that he had told the Golden Globes higher-ups to never ask him to host again because he’s afraid he’d backtrack and say yes if they do. 

“It could be the Golden Globes could offer me 10 million for 10 minutes work, and I’d be an idiot, I’d be a liar, to say I wouldn’t consider it,” Gervais told LADBible. “But at the moment, given I’ve done it five times, it got better and better for me – I enjoyed them all, but it got better – and I’m planning never to do it again.”

“I’ve asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded, that’s true,” he continued. “You know, it’s not a principle.”

Gervais was the perfect host for the Golden Globes because he had the guts to call out the liberal elites of Hollywood as they tried to pat themselves on the back with their ridiculous award show. While Carmichael catered to the out-of-touch wokeness of the Hollywood liberal elites in the room, Gervais catered to the working class Americans watching at home who have had enough of being lectured to by smug entertainers.

Here’s hoping that the Golden Globes bring back Gervais next year, because if they do, we might actually watch again.
