Harrison Ford Defiantly Refuses To Retire At 80 – ‘I Just Want To Work’

Harrison Ford may have turned 80 this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s planning on slowing down anytime soon. In fact, he’s busier than ever these days, as he’s starring in the “Yellowstone” prequel series “1923,” which premieres on the Paramount Network on Sunday.

Ford Staying Busy At 80

“I’m 80, and I’m playing 77,” Ford said with a laugh as he promoted his new show. “It’s a bit of a stretch.”

People Magazine reported that Ford stars in “1923” with Helen Mirren, with them portraying Jacob and Cara Dutton as they preside over their family during events like Western Expansion, Prohibition and the Great Depression. Earlier this month, Ford opened up about how much he enjoyed working with Mirren again nearly forty years after the starred in the 1986 thriller The Mosquito Coast.

“I admire her work and her person [now], and I have all the same degree of admiration for her as I did then,” Ford said of Mirren. “She’s wonderful, she’s just a lovely person, and so it’s been both a professional pleasure and a personal pleasure working with her again.”

Mirren was just as eager to work with Ford again as he was with her.

“We didn’t read scripts before we signed up. Neither Harrison nor I,” Mirren told The Hollywood Reporter over the weekend. “If Harrison was involved, I knew it would have a certain quality.”

Ford’s Other Projects

Aside from “1923,” Ford has also stayed busy working on the movies Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, MCU’s Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts, as well as the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking.”

“I’ve been working pretty much back-to-back, which is not what I normally do,” he admitted. “I don’t know how it happened. But it happened.”

Despite his age, Ford has no plans to retire, as he’s loving the work he’s doing right now.

“I love it. I love the challenge and the process of making a movie. I feel at home. It’s what I’ve spent my life doing,” he said. “I’m here to sell a movie. I don’t want to reinvent myself. I just want to work.”

Ford Discusses Playing Indiana Jones Again

In another interview, Ford opened up about playing Indiana Jones for the fifth and final time in the upcoming film.

“I’ve always wanted to conclude his story and I’ve always wanted to see him later in life,” he said, according to Daily Mail. “I think we have a wonderful story to tell.”

When asked if he’s more careful about doing stunts at his age, Ford replied, “I don’t do stunts. I do physical acting. You know, I’m always trying to be careful.”

“There’s all kinds of stunts, all kinds of action,” Ford continued. “There’s all kinds of exciting scenes and they’re fun to do and I enjoy doing them myself but I think you want to see my face.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to premiere on June 30, 2023.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
