Earlier this week, we reported that Whoopi Goldberg was being slammed for making more “offensive” comments about the Holocaust and once again suggesting that it was not originally about race. While she has since apologized, the backlash against her has continued, and calls are growing for ABC to fire her from “The View” and replace her with Rosie O’Donnell.

Calls For ABC To Fire Goldberg – Replace Her With O’Donnell

The Sun reported that Goldberg was suspended from “The View” for two weeks earlier this year after the 67 year-old Oscar-winner said that the Holocaust was not about race. Though she backtracked at the time, she proceeded to double down on this in an interview last week, much to the outrage of fans everywhere.

Now, fans are calling on ABC to get rid of Goldberg once and for all and replace her with O’Donnell on “The View.”

“If Whoopi is fired, should they bring back Rosie?” read a thread that has since gone viral on the social media site Reddit.

“Whoopi who I love, once again said something really dumb and ABC has to be angry,” it continued. “If she’s fired, should they get Rosie O’Donnell back as mod? She was good TV, IMO.”

Many fans were quick to agree, with one writing, “I would love for Rosie to come back, if only to see how she would handle the Sunny issue. I also think it would be interesting to see how she interacts with Farrah. Her and Elizabeth were on opposite sides politically, but did get along quite well for a while.”

“I would love Rosie to come back!!” commented a third user, with another adding, “Bring Rosie back!!! Love her. Even as a special correspondent!”

Backstory: Whoopi Goldberg Doubles Down On Claim That Holocaust Wasn’t About Race

O’Donnell’s History On ‘The View’

O’Donnell initially joined “The View” back in 2006, replacing Meredith Viera as the show’s moderator. She often got into heated arguments with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who was the show’s token conservative from 2003 until 2013. O’Donnell left the show eight months later after an argument with Hasselbeck over the war in Iraq.

While O’Donnell came back to “The View” in 2014, this time appearing on the program alongside Goldberg, she left once again in February of 2015 due to “personal reasons.”

Afterwards, a source close to the show claimed that O’Donnell had left due to conflicts with Goldberg behind the scenes. O’Donnell had allegedly thought that she would be moderator when she came back to the show, and was dismayed to find that Goldberg would be holding the position, which led to tension between the two women.

Goldberg’s Latest Holocaust Comments

Goldberg has found herself in hot water for the latest comments that she made about the Holocaust, saying, “My best friend said, ‘Not for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that we’re probably not a race.’”

When she was told that the Nazis thought the Holocaust was about race, Goldberg replied, “Yes, but that’s the killer, isn’t it?” The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?”

Not stopping there, Goldberg proceeded to say that the Holocaust “wasn’t originally” about race.

“Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical,” she said. “They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.”

Though Goldberg has since apologized, many feel that she needs to be held accountable for once again sticking her foot in her mouth about the Holocaust. It remains to be seen whether or not ABC will take a stand against anti-semitism by firing her.
