Joy Behar Humiliated As Her Phone Is Confiscated After It Goes Off During Live Show

Joy Behar was humiliated on “The View” earlier this week when her co-host Sunny Hostin had to take her phone away after it interrupted the live taping of the ABC talk show.

Behar’s Phone Chaos

Behar, who was moderating in Whoopi Goldberg’s place on Monday morning, had to stop when giving the show’s usual introductions after her phone went off with obnoxiously loud music blaring. Instead of being apologetic for this unprofessional mishap, Behar burst out laughing as she said that she could not figure out how to turn the phone off.

“Oh my God, turn it off,” Behar, 80, said as she slapped the screen. “Stop it! And does Siri talk to me in the middle of nowhere? ‘I don’t understand what you’re saying.’ It’s like, who’s talking to you? I’m not talking to you.”

Behar then tried to ignore the phone by asking her co-host Ana Navarro about her recent bout with COVID-19, yet the device continued to make noise.

“Hold on, I think I’m gonna talk about COVID after we get the music under control,” Navarro said.

Finally, co-host Hostin got out of her chair and grabbed the phone before seemingly bringing it backstage.

“I’m sorry, I have no control over technology,” Behar said with a laugh as she continued the daily talk show.

Behar Has ‘No Plans’ For Retirement

Behar celebrated her 80th birthday last month, and this embarrassing incident indicates that she might want to think about taking a step back from live television. Unfortunately for all of us, however, she has made it clear that she isn’t planning to do that anytime soon.

“I just signed a contract so I’ll be here for a while,” Behar told People Magazine around the time of her birthday. “I have no plans to retire.”

“It’s really, you know, something that is an important show in many ways,” she added of the ABC talk show. “Sometimes I don’t believe that, as I’ve been here since the beginning, but we’re the most-watched show in daytime. Most-watched! I’m happy to be a part of it. So no, I’m not going anywhere. I’m having a good time.”

Behar Grateful For ‘The View’

Behar was one of the original hosts of “The View” when it premiered back in 1997, and though she was inexplicably fired in 2013, she was brought back two years later and has been on it ever since. She told Entertainment Tonight back in September that she’s grateful for the longevity her job on “The View” has given her.

“I was just telling somebody else, to me, longevity is the main thing in this business,” she said. “‘Cause you can have a job in a movie, and nobody sees you again, but this longevity is key.”

That’s all well and good, but if Behar wants to stay on “The View” into her 80s, she might want to consider leaving her phone in the dressing room. While she makes headlines for “The View” often, she typically does so for all the wrong reasons, so it remains to be seen how much longer ABC will keep her around.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
