Jay Leno Released From Burn Unit Nine Days After Suffering Severe Injuries In Fire

Over the past week, we’ve been reporting on the comedian Jay Leno as he tries to recover from “serious burns” that he received in a fire nine days ago. Now, an update about Leno has just come in that will have his fans rejoicing.

Leno Released From Burn Center

People Magazine has confirmed that Leno was discharged from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, California on Monday. The above photo shows Leno’s face for the first time since the fire.

Leno had been at the facility undergoing surgeries and other treatments since he was injured in the gasoline fire, which took place in his garage in Burbank, California just over one week ago on November 12.

“Comedian Jay Leno was released from the Grossman Burn Center today,” doctors at the facility said in a statement. “After a 10-day stay at the facility, Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic for burns to his face, chest and hands he received during a fire at his home garage.”

“Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes,” the statement continued. “He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”

Dr. Peter Grossman added a statement of his own, saying, “I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery.”

Leno’s Treatment After Fire

During his treatment, Leno underwent a surgical excision and grafting procedure, which saw unhealthy tissue be removed in the hopes of better healing his wounds while also lowering the risk of infection. In Leno’s case, Grossman explained that “much of the thickness of the skin was injured,” so it was necessary to remove the unhealthy tissue.

Leno had been working on a steam engine under a 1907 White Steam Car when the fire began, and he had to be pulled from underneath the vehicle before he was rushed to the burn center. He has long been known to be a car aficionado who owns 180 vehicles in his garage including exotic cars, hypercars and museum-grade artifacts, according to US News & World Report.

“It was a steam car. This steam was made by gas. It got sprayed, as a gas,” Leno’s mechanic George Swift, who works in his garage, said of the fire. “He called me, and he told me there was a fire and the fire department is coming.”

“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire,” Leno told Fox News afterwards. “I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

Grossman Anticipates Leno Will Make A ‘Full Recovery’

Grossman said last week that he was confident that Leno would be alright.

“Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning,” Grossman said. “Currently, there’s no evidence of nerve damage.”

“I do anticipate him making a full recovery,” he added. “Whether they’ll be remnants of this injury, it’s still too early to tell. I’d say that his injuries are serious, his condition is good.”

While Leno will still need to receive treatment for third degree burns, we’re relieved to see that he’s well enough to be released from the burn center. Please join us in praying for his continued recovery in the weeks to come!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
