Remember Obama’s Lucrative Netflix Deal? It Just Won Him An Emmy Award

Former President Barack Obama has won his very first Emmy Award for a Netflix documentary in which he shamelessly whines about being “so confined in the White House” during his time in office.

Obama Wins Emmy Award

Daily Mail reported that Obama won the Emmy for Outstanding Narrator for his work narrating the Netflix documentary Our Great National Parks, the first episode of which was released on April 13. This brings Obama halfway to winning an EGOT, which happens when someone wins an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He has previously won a Grammy for his audiobook reading of “The Audacity of Hope” and “A Promised Land” — two of the former president’s memoirs.

The BBC reported that only 17 people have ever achieved EGOT status, including Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Jennifer Hudson.

Obama is the second president to win an Emmy, with the first being Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was awarded a special Emmy Award in 1956 for his “appreciation of television” after holding the first press conference broadcasted on television the year before. CBS News reports that Obama won his Emmy on Saturday night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, beating out a list of famous nominees that included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Sir David Attenborough, and Lupita Nyong’o.

‘Our Great National Parks’

Our Great National Parks is a five-part documentary series that was produced by Higher Ground, the production company owned by Obama and his wife, the former First Lady Michelle Obama. As its title suggests, the series profiles national parks all over the world, focusing on the policies Obama claims to have implemented to expand and protect them.

“When humanity started to protect these wild places, we did not realize how important they would become,” Obama said in the trailer for the series. “They’re a haven for endangered species and a hotbed for scientific research.”

Outsider reported that in one clip, Obama said that during his time in office, he and his wife would escape the confines of the White House with their two daughters Malia and Sasha by taking them to national parks.

“We were so confined in the White House,” the former president complained. “Every time we had one of these trips, and you suddenly could see reminders of what this planet has to offer and emotions that were stirred … I would always come back feeling different in a way that no other experiences gave me.”

Obamas Go Hollywood

Since leaving the White House in January of 2017, the Obamas have gone full Hollywood, launching their production company and signing a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2018. Higher Ground won an Oscar in 2020 for the documentary American Factory, although it should be noted that Obama himself did not win this award.

Obama being so worshipped in Hollywood has led to him creating quite an IMDB page. As a producer, the former president has 9 credits to his name, including a project that is currently filming and one still in pre-production. Of course, no Republican president would ever have these same opportunities in Hollywood, which is more dominated by the radical Left than it ever has been in the past.

The hypocrisy of the liberal world of Hollywood never ceases to amaze.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
