Meghan Markle Breaks Down By Queen’s Coffin As The Late Monarch Lays In State At Westminster Hall

Queen Elizabeth, who died last Thursday at the age of 96, was laying in state today at Westminster Hall. While standing behind her sister-in-law Kate Middleton near the Queen’s coffin, Meghan Markle broke down and became visibly emotional.

Daily Mail reported that Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate, and Meghan were able to put aside their feud as they honored the Queen during her lying in state service.

During the 38-minute procession to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace, the brothers could be seen walking besides each other, but their spouses travelled there in separate cars. Kate was joined in her vehicle by Camilla, the Queen Consort, and Meghan rode with the Countess of Wessex; wife of the Queen’s youngest son Prince Edward.

As the Queen’s coffin arrived, Meghan curtsied to it as she bowed her head.

Queen’s Service At Westminster Hall

The choir of Westminster Abbey and the choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, sang Psalm 139 as the Queen’s coffin was brought in. Charles, William, and Princess Anne saluted when the Queen arrived, unlike Harry and Prince Andrew — both banned from wearing their military uniforms — who only bowed their heads to pay their respects.

The short service was led by The Archbishop of Canterbury, and he began it by reading the opening prayer. The Queen had put this service together herself with the Church of England prior to her passing.

The Queen’s coffin was brought in on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, which was used for both her mother and her father’s coffins when they passed away in 1952 and 2002, respectively.

Once the congregation was dismissed at the end of the service, calls of “God save the King” could be heard as Charles and Camilla left Westminster Hall at 3:30 pm. Harry and Meghan held hands as they left Westminster Hall, and Kate rubbed William’s arm in support as they walked out.

Mourners will have the opportunity to file past the coffin and pay their respects to the Queen — the longest-serving monarch in British history — after 5pm. It’s been estimated that around 1 million people will line up in waits that could last up to 30 hours just to see the Queen before her state funeral this coming Monday, with her laying in state until 6:30am that morning.

Music At Queen’s State Funeral

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Graham Jones, former senior director of music for the Household Division, said that during the Queen’s state funeral procession next week, music will act as a “golden thread of history, heritage and tradition.”

“We are not making anything up,” he said. “This has come through the past and so if we go back to Queen Victoria’s funeral and the music that was played and performed there, that was Beethoven’s March, Chopin’s March – they were played repeatedly. And then we move forward to the three kings, with King George VI, and of course here we are today.”

“There’s no change. There’s no reason to change,” he later added. “It has worked perfectly well in the past.”

Harry and Meghan have been estranged from much of the royal family ever since they stepped down as senior royals back in 2020. They proceeded to spend the Queen’s final years bashing the royal family seemingly every chance they got, so many will undoubtedly see Meghan crying crocodile tears.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Harry and Meghan behave at the state funeral next week, because they rarely miss an opportunity to steal focus and make every event about themselves.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
