Kanye West Puts America First And Cancels Gap Deal Due To China Ties – “We Can Actually Bring Industry Back To America”

The rapper Kanye “Ye” West is going all out when it comes to putting America first, as he has just cancelled his deal with Gap partly because of the brand’s ties to China.

West Wants To ‘Bring Industry Back To America’

During a recent interview with CNBC, West explained where his deal with Gap started to go south. 

“There’s a lot of stuff where they have a lot of commitments to China,” the rapper said. “We wanted to do localized manufacturing which is completely possible with some of the factories that I’m buying here in California. We can actually bring industry back to America.”

West’s Gap Deal Falls Apart

NPR reported that West’s deal with Gap was announced in June of 2021, and his first item, which was a blue puffer jacket, began appearing in Gap stores a little over a year ago.

Aside from Gap’s ties to China, another issue here was that West claimed that the brand failed to meet obligations. The rapper’s lawyers wrote in a letter that these obligations included distributing merchandise to Gap store locations and creating dedicated YZY Gap stores.

Offering an assessment of the current situation between the rapper and Gap, West’s attorney Nicholas Gravante with Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft declared, “Gap left Ye no choice but to terminate their collaboration agreement because of Gap’s substantial noncompliance.”

“Ye had diligently tried to work through these issues with Gap both directly and through counsel. He has gotten nowhere,” Gravante added.

The rapper’s attorney went on to claim that Gap’s failure to meet these obligations has been costly for West, who plans to begin opening Yeezy retail stores.

West’s History With Gap

West’s history with Gap is a long one, as he worked in one of the chain’s Chicago stores when he was a teenager. Back in 2015, he even said that he wanted to become Gap’s creative director.

The rapper told Bloomberg last week that he is through with having corporate partners, and will be moving forward alone with all his future endeavors in the world of fashion.

“It’s time for me to go it alone,” West said. “It’s fine. I made the companies money. The companies made me money.”

“We created ideas that will change apparel forever,” he continued. “Like the round jacket, the foam runner, the slides that have changed the shoe industry. Now it’s time for Ye to make the new industry. No more companies standing in between me and the audience.”

West Doubles Down On America First

West recently told Forbes that he is planning an ultra-affordable Ye Supply Store, where pieces would start at $20, with his goal being to “make clothing free.” 

“When it’s sold in America, it’ll be made in America, and when it’s sold in China, it’ll be manufactured in China,” he said. “So the glasses will cost $20, and everything in the Ye Supply store will be $20. And, we’re working on how to make clothing free. Because life is free.”

“It’s our responsibility and pleasure to turn these dreams into reality, to simplify things, and provide more room for people to imagine, [not] constricting or enforcing ideas,” West added.

West was an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump throughout his presidency, showing that he’s not afraid to think for himself despite the fact that the entertainment industry is widely run by the Left. We applaud him for putting America first in such a public and brave way!
