Wynonna Judd Upset After Mother Naomi Left Her And Ashley Out Of Her Will

It’s been three months since the country music legend Naomi Judd tragically committed suicide at the age of 76. Now, it’s been revealed that her daughter Wynonna is “upset” after she and her sister Ashley were cut out of her $25 million will. 

Naomi Cut Daughters Out Of Her Will

Daily Mail reported that Naomi left Wynonna and Ashley out of her will, instead appointing Larry Strickland, her husband of 33 years, as executor of her estate. Strickland will be given “full authority and discretion” over Naomi’s assets “without the approval of any court.”

“I nominate and appoint my spouse, Larry Strickland, as Executor of my estate,” Naomi said in her will, which made no mention of Wynonna and Ashley at all, according to Radar Online. 

“In the event my spouse ceases or fails to serve, then I nominate and appoint my brother-in-law, Reginald Strickland, and Daniel Kris Wiatr as Co-Executors,” the document added. “I direct that no bond shall be required of my Executor.”

Page Six reported that Naomi said that Strickland should be given “reasonable compensation” for his services, and that he is to be paid or reimbursed for all “reasonable expenses, advances and disbursements, including attorney’s and accountant’s fees, made or incurred in the administration of my estate.”

Naomi drew up this will on November 20, 2017, and she said she was of “sound mind and disposing memory” when she approved the document.

Wynonna ‘Upset’ About Naomi’s Decision

A source close to Wynonna said that she is “upset” at her mother’s baffling decision to cut her out of the will because she was part of their performing duo The Judds and “believes she was a major force behind her mother’s success.”

Naomi had been open about her mental health struggles for years before she took her own life at her Tennessee farmhouse on April 30. 

“She used a weapon…a firearm,” Ashley said after her death. “That’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that if we don’t say it someone else is going to.”

Reps for Wynonna and Ashley refused to comment when contacted about the sisters being left out of the will. In the months since Naomi’s passing, neither sister has given any indication that they have feelings of anger towards their mother, famously attending Naomi’s Country Music Hall of Fame induction just one day after she died. 

Wynonna said back in May that she felt “helpless” in the wake of her mother’s suicide, and she vowed to “break the cycle of addiction & family dysfunction, that I must continue to show up for myself [first] and do the personal healing work.”

Naomi’s Estate

Wynonna and Ashley each had homes on their mother’s 1,000-acre farm in the greater-Nashville area, and it is unknown if their properties are considered to be part of her estate. Naomi showed off her farm, where she had lived for 30 years, in a 2016 episode of Oprah Winfrey’s “Where Are They Now?”

“Ashley lives right up over that hill, right up the road,” Naomi said in the interview, adding that it took exactly one minute to get from her door to her daughter’s. 

“And Miss Wynonna lives right over that hill,” she said, saying that it took about six minutes to get to that daughter’s house.

The entire Judd family is obviously still reeling from Naomi’s tragic passing. We can only hope and pray that any potential drama they may have over Naomi’s will does not ultimately tear them apart.
