Ric Flair Health Scare During Last Match, Kevin Dunn Staying Put

The “Nature Boy” Ric Flair announced he was coming out of retirement at the age of 73 recently. An event was organized, announced, and touted as his ‘Last Match’. Still, many were concerned about him competing due to his age and health.

Ric Flair Health Scare During Last Match

During his To Be The Man podcast, Flair admits that he passed out twice during his ‘Last Match’ bout. However, there was a good reason for it.

According to Naitch, he had it in his head that he wanted to be 220 going into the bout. Ric explains he was on a strict training regimen that kept his weight regulated.

Therefore, to ensure he was at 220 he didn’t hydrate beforehand. He went into the match at 217.

Still, he became dehydrated while on the apron during the bout. He looked at Jay Lethal and told him he was getting sick, as Flair was feeling light-headed.

Planned Spot Ric Flair During Last Match, Scrapped

When all was said and done, the match was 30 minutes long. While his tag team partner and son-in-law Andrade El Idolo did most of the work, Flair did partake in some spots.

However, due to the health scare, one spot was scrapped. Jeff Jarrett was supposed to lift the top turnbuckle and Jay Lethal was going to give Flair a suplex.

Due to the fact that Jarrett was worried about Ric’s health, Flair came down with Jeff. Lethal then gave Naitch a suplex.

Flair and Andrade defeated Lethal and Jarrett after the Dirtiest Player in the Game nailed Jeff with brass knuckles. Naitch placed Jarrett in the Figure-Four Leg Lock and the rest is history.

Jarrett didn’t tap out. Rather, because he was knocked out and both shoulders were on the mat, Flair got the three-count pin.

Interestingly enough, fans weren’t the only ones worried about Ric during his Last Match. The Undertaker came running to his friend, after the bout.

While Flair had six beers, Taker took them out of his hands. He straight up told Naitch that he was drinking two Gatorades, instead.

Flair’s last match in the WWE (dubbed his ‘first’ retirement match) happened at WrestleMania in 2008 against Shawn Michaels. Since then, he’s participated in 16 more.

Over to the land of WWE, there has been a ton of changes within the company since Vince McMahon officially retired. One employee that won’t be leaving, despite the close relationship he had with VKM, is Kevin Dunn.

Kevin Dunn Staying Put

For decades now, Dunn has been the head of TV production for the WWE. It’s been noted he leans more towards the “entertainment” than the “sports” factor of the business.

As per a report by Fightful’s Sean Sapp, Dunn is very much a “Vince McMahon” guy. Despite this, Kevin is expected to say with the WWE.

While many thought he’d leave when VKM and John Laurinaitis left, the report reveals something interesting. It seems that Triple H has stated that Dunn will be a major part of the WWE’s future.

Some talent that was spoken stated they were hoping there would be a change in production style. In fact, a top superstar and one former talent note that there are production elements that “undermine” their in-ring work.

Kevin Dunn Has The Experience Factor

However, the report also reveals that WWE doesn’t think there’s anyone out there that could replace Dunn at this point. The likeliest candidates for his job were probably let go during the last round of layoffs.

While some fans may have negative feelings towards Dunn, he has a fair amount of experience with the WWE and TV production. With Trips and Stephanie leading things now, fans can continue to see a change in all aspects of the company, regardless.
