The singer, actress, and television personality Kathie Lee Gifford has had an incredible career that has lasted decades, but she is only just now working at her “dream job” at the age of 68. She’s been given the chance to bring the Bible to life in a whole new way with her new Christian movie The Way, a film that she directed and narrated.

‘My Dream Job Is What I’m Doing Now’

“I loved doing the show with Regis,” Gifford told Fox News, referring to her long-running talk show with the late Regis Philbin.

“I loved doing the show with Hoda,” she also said, referring to “Today” host Hoda Kotb. “But those were never my dream jobs. My dream job is what I’m doing now. Writing music and writing movies and writing and directing in beautiful places.”

Gifford went on to say that she met the singer Nicole C. Mullen four years ago, and the pair thought they were “just going to write a little song.”

“It ended up becoming an 11-and-a-half minute oratorio called ‘The God Who Sees,’” she continued.

When the song went viral and garnered millions of views on YouTube, Gifford realized that she wanted to pursue a larger project of this kind.

‘Nobody’s Ever Seen The Bible This Way’

“I realized that this is what the rest of my life had to be about,” she said. “I had to take more stories because they’re epic, fantastic stories from the Bible …Nobody’s ever seen the Bible this way.”

Gifford explained that The Way is a symphonic 75-minute storytelling of the Bible that chronicles the dawn of creation through the New Testament. Released by Fathom Events, the movie is set to hit theaters for one night only on September 1, and it will tell Bible stories in a modern way with contemporary music.

Gifford serves as narrator for the film, and she’s teased that she may sing a bit in it too. Other artists that took part in The Way include Mullen, Danny Gokey, Jimmie Allen, Larry Gatlin, BeBe Winans, and more.

‘God Cast This Thing’

Gifford said that while she “certainly would have loved to have these big, big stars” be a part of the project, God told her to ask the lesser-known Matt Baugher and Julie Roberts to play the roles of Abraham and Sarah in the film. A couple in real life, Baugher and Roberts have a lot in common with these biblical characters.

“Because they understand the pain of being barren,” Gifford said of the couple. “They were struggling, struggling, struggling with … fertility. And I said, ‘OK, Lord,’ and I just obeyed.”

Months after wrapping the movie, Baugher and Roberts called Gifford to say that they were expecting a baby!

“I play/sing the part of Abraham and Julie is Sarah,” Baugher wrote on social media. “And we filmed it BEFORE getting pregnant with Jackson. How amazing is that for the roles that we played? Friends, this project is astounding. Don’t miss it!”

“God cast this thing,” Gifford simply. said.

Gifford Pays Cast Herself

Gifford even said that God inspired her to pay the cast with her own money.

“I just wrote a check for $10,000 for every single person that’s in it and said, ‘The Lord is going to provide because you deserve to be paid for it. You all gave out of your heart and were willing to do it for free. But I want to bless you during the time of COVID and [help you] make some money,'” she recounted.

“You can never outgive God or outdo God,” Gifford concluded. “He will always show up and surprise you like crazy.”

God bless Gifford for continuing to use her platform to spread the word of God in such uniquely beautiful ways. Be sure to check out The Way for yourself when it hits theaters next month!
