We have some insight behind Hit Row’s recent WWE return, plus Vince McMahon blocked Lashley from chasing a UFC dream.

Behind Hit Row’s Return

The group returned as a trio on Friday’s SmackDown, and now we can get a look behind Hit Row’s return to WWE.

In case you may have forgotten things…

Hit Row was a foursome in NXT. The group, made up of Top Dolla, Ashanti Thee Adonis, B-Fab and Swerve Scott, broke out in NXT.

As quickly as they blew up in NXT, they found themselves drafted onto the main roster.

And, as quickly as they were brought up…they were released just as fast.

It was a meteoric rise and fall for the group.

Swerve was snatched up by AEW following his release. The rest of the group remained free.

But, according to Top Dolla while speaking on Busted Open…they also remained in contact with Triple H.

The trio, who worked as a trio before being paired with Swerve, also stayed in shape.

Once Hunter took over, a reunion quickly took shape.

There were rumors of backstage issues with some and Hit Row, and that perhaps that led to their rapid demise.

According to Top Dolla, anything that may or may not have happened in the past didn’t matter to him.

Specifically, Hunter said the group had a clean slate with him.

Whatever happened was under a prior regime, and was of no concern to him.

Clearly, Triple H is clearing the air and righting some wrongs, considering all the Superstars who got chopped by Vince and Nick.

This does make you wonder something. Previously, reports indicated that Khan was driving the releases, citing financial decisions.

However…if that were true, it seems funny that Vince is gone and some of these “financially driven releases” are rapidly finding their way back.

Vince McMahon Blocked Lashley

Speaking of the old boss, it turns out Vince McMahon blocked Bobby Lashley from some outside interests.

In fairness, with regard to Lashley, the outside interest was specifically the UFC.

And, McMahon would have been justified in saying no.

WWE Superstars are under contract with the company, and while there is always a risk of injury even in a scripted show…there are greater risks in UFC.

For starters, it isn’t scripted…so anything could happen.

As dominant as Lashley has been as a WWE Superstar, that doesn’t matter in the Octagon.

He could find himself injured or looking silly, and in doing so, the WWE presentation could be destroyed.

While it is not an apples to apples comparison, just remember how wonderfully CM Punk did in UFC.

Lashley is far better than Punk, as his prior MMA record supports. But still, one world is controlled, the other is anything but.

So, as Lashley told it to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp…Vince blocked Lashley.

More specifically, McMahon was a recent guest at a UFC event, prior to his forced retirement. Lashley was there too.

And, Lashley texted McMahon, wanting to get a shot in UFC. McMahon might not have explicitly blocked, but he wasn’t saying yes, either.

Such a move would have been unprecedented.

While Riddle and Lesnar both have experience with UFC, neither did so while under WWE contract.

To that end, it seems questionable whether Dana White would want that in UFC either. While they could surely have some fun hyping it, having a WWE Superstar battle a UFC talent would be…controversial.

Some would wonder if the fight was legit or rigged for sure. Plus, while White and Hunter might be on better terms…I doubt either feels a need to help the other.

Best bet here? Eventually, somehow, we see Lashley get an MMA type match at a WWE premium event.

If at all.
