The world is still reeling from the death of the Hollywood star Anne Heche, who passed away last week at the age of 53 after crashing her car into a home in Los Angeles at nearly 90mph.

Now, an interview has surfaced in which Heche tried to warn Portia de Rossi against dating her ex-girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres, saying that it would be a “red flag” for her to get with the comedian and talk show host.

Heche Warned de Rossi Against Dating DeGeneres

In an episode of her podcast Better Together that aired in June of 2021, Heche told her co-host Heather Duffy that she’d warned de Rossi not to date DeGeneres.

“Portia even asked me about Ellen” and told her “I’m gonna go after Ellen,” Heche alleged, according to Daily Mail. She claimed that she warned de Rossi that dating DeGeneres would not help her career, as there were not many same-sex couples in Hollywood at the time.

“You won’t be the poster child, girl, because guess what, that poster child has already been taken; and by the way, it wasn’t a great spot,” Heche told de Rossi. “But, yours ain’t gonna be any easier. And I’m telling you now, like, red flag, red flag, red flag!”

“I realized that Ellen drove a Porsche… and then she married one,” Heche continued. “All she used to do was drive Porsches and she collected them and I just thought it was so stupid because they were so loud.”

De Rossi Ignores Heche’s Warning

Heche and DeGeneres dated from 1997 until they went through a bitter breakup in 2000. Heche and de Rossi worked together on the show “Ally McBeal” in 2001, and de Rossi was even a guest at Heche’s wedding to Coleman Laffoon that same year.

De Rossi ignored Heche’s warning and began dating DeGeneres anyway in 2004, with the pair marrying four years later in 2008, and they have been together ever since. In fact, they just celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary earlier this week.

Heche Claimed She Was Blacklisted Over DeGeneres Relationship

In October of last year, Heche complained that her relationship with DeGeneres had a detrimental impact on her career, as she “didn’t do a studio picture for ten years” afterward.

“I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture,” Heche said, going on to say that the “repercussions that happened” to her also helped to be “a part of the change” towards making strides towards inclusion of the LGBTQ community.

Heche was taken off life support on August 12, one week after she crashed into a house in Los Angeles at speeds of up to 90mph. Toxicology reports later revealed that she had cocaine in her system at the time of the crash, and her cause of death was ruled to be inhalation of smoke and thermal injuries. She also suffered a “sternal fracture due to blunt trauma,” according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner.

On the day of Heche’s death, DeGeneres took to Twitter to say, “This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.”

Heche clearly was fighting some demons during her life, and it seems she had a lot of bitterness about how her relationship with DeGeneres went down. We can only hope that she is now at peace.
