Concern Over SummerSlam Card, Kenny Omega Back Soon?

There are rumblings of concern over the SummerSlam card, and from a curious source. Plus, is AEW star Kenny Omega expected back soon?

Concern Over SummerSlam Card

With the show just over a week away now, we are learning of some apparent concern over the SummerSlam card.

The concern is coming from a rather puzzling source.

Specifically, according to WrestleVotes, there are those within WWE who have concern over the SummerSlam card.

As in, you know…the people responsible for making the SummerSlam card what it is.

It is a curious and puzzling bit of news, to be sure.

And, plenty to unpack from it too.

This is not someone saying “Vince McMahon hates the card”. For all we know, this is a controlled leak by some other sources within WWE who have concerns for the quality of the card.

While the Big Four PPV of WWE are not truly what they once were, SummerSlam is still one of the company’s premiere shows.

The company is going big this year, hosting SummerSlam outdoors, in an NFL stadium (Nashville’s Nissan Stadium).

When you go big, you need big matches and a strong card to draw in the fans.

There have already been rumblings of lagging ticket sales. Now, to hear that internally within WWE there is concern over the SummerSlam card?

Not good.

To be fair, I am cautiously optimistic.

We know what we can expect from Lesnar and Reigns. Logan Paul and The Miz could be better than not.

The Usos and Street Profits ought to do well too.

So…it is not a card devoid of bigger matches.

There’s also the looming threat of a Theory cash-in, and rumors of an imminent Bayley return.

It’s a curious report, and I will be curious to see if there is any more to this.

Kenny Omega Expected Back Soon?

On the other side of the fence, is AEW star Kenny Omega expected back soon?

The former AEW Champion has been off television for quite a while, since losing the belt to Adam Page.

Omega has used the time off to recover from several injuries and required surgeries.

Per Fightful, and via Sean Ross Sapp’s post:

His return couldn’t come soon enough. Numerous AEW talents have gone down in recent months with various injuries.

Bringing back a healthy Kenny Omega would be a welcomed thing within AEW.

Plus, if reports are to be believed, his return is suspected to be linked to the possible introduction of AEW trios titles.

That could be one reason why The Young Bucks just lost the AEW tag titles. Omega and the Bucks could be in line to hold those looming trios belts first.

John Deegan

Introduced to professional wrestling in the 1980's thanks to Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event, John's passion for the medium was reborn thanks to ECW in the 90's. A former in-ring "talent" with a career 0-2 record, he finds it more rewarding, and far less painful, to write about wrestling now.
